Subseries 1E: Ledgers

Materials older than 40 years that do not pertain to student academic performance
or discipline, trustee issues, or faculty personnel matters are open. Materials
in Series 8 are restricted for 75 years from the date of their creation due to
the discussion of personnel issues.
Subseries 1E: Ledgers includes 55 ledgers documenting the financial
transactions of the college from the 19th through the early 20th
centuries. The earliest ledger, titled "Ledger of the Trustees of the
College of New Jersey" dates from 1769 and is the only colonial binding
on any official record held within the University Archives. The ledger
also includes a bookbinder's ticket identifying the binding as the work
of Philadelphia bookbinder John Dean. The bookbinder's ticket is
engraved in silver and signed.
The ledgers are arrangement chronologically.
