Collection Creator Biography

Morris "Moe" Berg (1902-1972) was a major league baseball player, government spy, linguist, and lawyer. Majoring in modern languages at Princeton University, he graduated in 1923 with honors. From 1923-1939, Berg played fifteen seasons in the major leagues for five teams, including the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, and the Boston Red Sox. During the Second World War he was an agent for the Office of Strategic Services, operating in Europe on projects investigating Nazi resistance in Yugoslavia and German rocket engineering.
