collection items stored in special vault facilities.
This series contains papers relating to various towns in Massachusetts. The
majority of items are legal documents in the form of land deeds, writs, and tax
forms. The series is arranged alphabetically by name of town and chronologically
within each town file. In the cases of documents featuring multiple parties, the
following arrangement generally applies: Writs are filed by the town of the
defendant. Letters are filed by the town of the writer. Land deeds are filed by
the town in which the land was located. Researchers should note that individuals
and families may be found in multiple documents both within town files as well as
across the entire series. Of particular note in this regard are Justice of the
Peace Abel Lawrence and Massachusetts Congressional Representative John Locke. The
final folder in the series contains miscellaneous general documents related to the
state of Massachusetts.
