Ledger book kept by Gabriel de Iturbe e Iraeta in Mexico between March 2, 1801
and March 24, 1803. The running account contained within would seem to be a
principal and central record of Gabriel de Iturbe e Iraeta's general commercial
and business affairs during this period. A wide variety of business interests
and activities are represented (for example, trade, mining, income from
landholdings, the "bill of payment" system), the majority of them pursued
within the sphere of the colonial market. However, expenditures for personal
and household items and for municipal or community organizations are also
recorded, providing an additional perspective on the family's activities.
Entries in the ledger suggest the existence of complementary account books for
specific areas of the family's business interests. (Bound in leather.)
