Abstract

Consists of photographs of Middle East scenes collected by Bayard Dodge, president of the American University in Beirut, Lebanon.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 62 black-and-white photographs, ranging in size from 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" to 11" x 14 1/2". collected by Dodge (Princeton Class of 1909). Most of the photographs are of the buildings and students of Al-Azhar, the Muslim university in Cairo; others depict mosques and other scenes in Istanbul and Afghanistan. Two photographers are cited, C. Zachary and James A. Cudney, and several photographs have inscriptions in Arabic.

Dodge, Bayard, 1888-1972

A member of the Princeton Class of 1909, Bayard Dodge was president of the American University in Beirut, Lebanon, from 1923 to 1948. After his retirement from there he taught at Columbia University, Princeton University, and the American University of Cairo.
