Consists of an open collection of photographs sites in Greece by Swiss photographer Frédéric Boissonnas.

The collection is an open collection of photographs by Boissonnas. Included are 6 photographs (5 x 7 in.) of monasteries and other sites in Mount Athos, Greece, each stamped in relief "Boissonas, Geneve" ( ca. 1920); a large format (16 x 22 in.) photograph (ca. 1900) of the Erechtheun in Athens, signed by Boissonnas; and another large format photograph (ca. 1900) of the entrance to the stadium in Olympia, signed by Boissonnas in pen.

Collection Creator Biography:

Boissonnas, Frédéric, 1858-1946

Photographer Frédéric Boissonnas came from a family of artists in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1887, Boissonnas became a member of the Geneva Photographic Society (la Société Genevoise de photographie). He traveled to Greece many times and was hired in the 1910s by the Greek government to create an album entitled "The Image of Greece."

Purchase from Petros Vergos in 2008-2010: Acquired with matching funds provided by the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Fund (AM2008-80, 2010-115).
