The collection consists of correspondence and manuscripts related to the anthology Democracy at the Crossroads, arranged by Ellis Meredith. The purpose of the book was to restate some of the fundamental principles of the Democratic Party and to recall some of its achievements under the leadership of Woodrow Wilson. It was published In New York under the auspices of the Woman's National Democratic Club of Washington, D. C., by Brewer, Warren & Putnam in 1932. Correspondents include the contributing authors of the book, such as Claude G. Bowers, Edward P. Costigan, Mabel Costigan (Mrs. Edward Costigan, who was president of the Women Citizens League of Colorado), John W. Davis, John H. Latané, George Palmer Putnam (of Brewer, Warren & Putnam, Inc.), Carl Vrooman, Thomas J. Walsh, Robert F. Wagner, and Brand Whitlock. There is also an autograph note signed by Meredith to Caroline Reilly.
The manuscripts include typewritten biographies of the above contributors; a typescript (30 pp.) of Brand Whitlock's essay "Gentlemen Cry Peace, Peace," with holograph corrections; and Newton D. Baker's essay (33 pp.) "Democracy at War," also containing holograph corrections. Both essays were published in Democracy at the Crossroads. Also included are the dust jacket for the book and an envelope from the Women's Division of the Democratic National Committee addressed to Meredith, postmarked 15 September 1948.

Meredith, Ellis, b. 1865
Ellis Meredith was a suffragist and journalist from Colorado. She enlisted the help of the national suffragist movement in the successful Colorado campaign to get women the vote. Her works include What Difference Does it Make to the Women (1904) and Heart of My Heart(1904).
