Scope and Contents

The collection contains two typescripts by Edwards: "The Octagon, Yugoslavia Today" (heavily annotated), and "The Yugoslavs, A Portrait" (first section only), concerning the World War II era. Also included in the collection is a photograph album presented to Edwards upon his return to Yugoslavia in 1967, including 22 albumen prints mostly of scenes in Zenica and its museum in Yugoslavia, dated from 1963 to 1967. There is also a large amount of albumen prints, undated, of Edwards' and his wife, as well as of scenes of Belgrade, Ohrid, Serbia, Macedonia, Byzantine monuments and historical sites, portraits of eminent figures, and a few of artworks. There is also an autograph letter to Edwards by the rector of Holy Trinity in Yarmouth, Canada, dated 1948.

Edwards, Lovett Fielding.

Edwards was an English author. He was born in 1901 at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He went to Yugoslavia in 1931 and travelled throughout the country resulting in various published books, including "Profane Pilgrimage" Duckworth 1938, "A Wayfarer in Yugoslavia" (Methuen 1939), and "Danube Stream" (Muller 1940). He translated into English many works by Yugoslav authors and about twenty from French and Italian.

Acquisition:

Gift of the Program in Hellenic Studies with the support of the Stanley J. Seeger Hellenic Fund in 2010 .

Addition of photo album, unbound and bound ms, loose photographs are a gift of Bristow and Garland in 2010 (AM 2010-117).
