Description
Series 9, Memorabilia, 1922-1977, includes passports, postcards, cuff links, medals, a dagger, a pin, a commencement program, a business card, a book, a plaque, a Department of State flag, busts and a treaty. Ball received a certified photographic copy of the United Sates original of the treaty banning nuclear weapon tests in the atmosphere, in outer space and underwater, signed on August 5, 1963. The treaty bears the signatures of such notables as Dean Rusk, Lord Hume, and Andrey Gromyko.
Ball was recognized for his achievements as statesman by the governments of France, Belgium and Italy. He was an Officer of the French Legion of Honor, a Grande Ufficiale of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, and was awarded the Belgian Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown. He was also awarded the U.S. Medal of Freedom for his work on the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey. The medals he received are contained within this series.
