The Government Service series documents Viner's work as an advisor to departments in the United States government and as a representative for the United States to economic conferences. The papers include correspondence and memoranda, press releases, reports, and research materials. The League of Nations section is largely composed of materials related to meeting sessions, especially Session 12 in 1939. The State Department section contains materials collected by Viner on international economic issues from the 1940s, including international trade, United States foreign aid policies, and Germany, as well as materials from meetings of the economic consultants. The materials in the Treasury Department section are related to a variety of subjects, including international financial policies, the Bretton Woods agreements, gold and silver standards, and tax proposals, and also include a small amount of Viner's correspondence, some of which is with Henry Morgenthau, Jr. The United States Government Service Research Files section includes papers about economic development and European financial issues.
