Description
The Oversized Materials series contains awards and honorary degrees, scrapbooks, statistics charts and graphs, and index cards. The awards include Viner's Francis A. Walker Medal from the American Economic Association and his Medal of Honor from Rice University, both received in 1962. The majority of the scrapbooks (Books 1-2 and 4-7) are composed of a chronological set of clippings, as well as a few photographs and event programs, documenting publicity related to Viner. Most pertain to his opinions on policy and his participation at conferences and events. There is also a scrapbook of clippings documenting Viner's tenure as advisor to Henry Morgenthau Jr. in the Department of the Treasury in 1934, and a scrapbook of clippings documenting the controversy surrounding the plans of President Hutchins of the University of Chicago to reorganize the university's structure and governance. The index cards contain an index of Viner's correspondence, listing the organizational affiliations of individuals, as well as providing notes on related individuals and the dates of correspondence. The cards also include bibliographic references to publications.
