Abstract

Herman Struve Hensel (1901-1991) was an international lawyer. This collection consists of two scrapbooks containing clippings, correspondence, press releases, photographs, articles and speeches relating to Hensel's service as assistant secretary of the Navy and to the Army-McCarthy Hearings.

Description

Consists of two scrapbooks of Hensel. One includes press releases, newspaper clippings, articles and speeches by Hensel; an address by James V. Forrestal; correspondence; photographs (43) principally relating to Hensel's oath of office as assistant secretary of the Navy (1/30/1945) and launchings of the aircraft carriers U.S.S. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (4/30/1945) and U.S.S. PRINCETON (7/8/1945). The second contains newspaper clippings relating to the Army-McCarthy Hearings (1954) and denials of charges raised against Hensel, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security, by Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Herman Struve Hensel (1901-1991) was an international lawyer. He served as the first General Counsel of the Navy from (1941-1945); as Assistant Secretary of the Navy i(1945-46), and as General Counsel of the United States Department of Defense (1955-1955).
