Biography and History

Lowes Cato Dickinson was an English portrait painter in the Victorian establishment. He also painted and lithographed sporting pictures. Son and pupil of stationer and lithographic publisher, Joseph Dickinson, he was inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites. Dickinson taught drawing with John Ruskin and Dante Rossetti, and exhibitions of his portraits were held at the Royal Academy from 1848-1891.
