Biography and History

Princeton University's Program in Latin American Studies was founded in 1966 as an interdisciplinary course of study to supplement the regular undergraduate or graduate curriculum. Through course offerings, programming, and cultural events the Program in Latin American Studies offers students the opportunity to study the culture and history of the region from multiple perspectives.

The Helen Doherty Lassen Fellowship, which awards two fellowships annually to students in the Program in Latin American Studies, was established in 1966 by the Henry L. and Grace Doherty Charitable Foundation.
