Biography and History

Born Arthur Llewellyn Jones in Wales, Arthur Machen was the author of The Three Imposters (1890), The Great God Pan (1894), The Hill of Dreams (1907), The Terror (1917), and other works of supernatural horror. Machen was also an essayist, journalist, Shakespearean actor, occultist, and translator. He was considered one of the noblest stylistic masters of the English language in the last century and an outstanding British writer of supernatural fiction.
