Biography and History

Caleb Frank Gates was an 1877 graduate of Beloit College and an 1881 graduate of the Chicago Theological School. In 1883, Gates began serving in Turkey with the American Board of Foreign Missions. In 1894, Gates was elected president of Euphrates College, a position that he held until 1903 when he assumed the presidency of Robert College. Gates took a leave from the Robert College presidency (1922-1923) to serve as adviser to the United States high commissioner at the peace conference on Near Eastern affairs in Lausanne, Switzerland.
