Biography and History

J. H. Stocqueler was a writer and entrepreneur in England, India, and the United States. His major works include Hand Book for India and Egypt (1841), Maid Marian: The Forest Queen (1849), and The Military Encyclopaedia (1853). In 1836, the Calcutta Public Library was founded at Stocqueler's suggestion.
