Biography and History
Newton Lacy Pierce earned his doctorate from Princeton University in 1937 and later became an associate professor of astronomy at the university and assistant director of the Princeton Observatory. He gained wide recognition as an observational astronomer, particularly for his study of eclipsing variable stars.
