A portion of the papers relate to research conducted by Professor Gerald Breese for his book Princeton University Land, 1752-1984 (1986).

These materials provide insight into hemp and other agricultural production in Missouri and Kentucky before, during, and after the American Civil War and document the employment of African American and immigrant laborers during the early Reconstruction era.
