Typescript of "The Negro in the Western World Theatre" by Randolph Edmonds, circa late 1940s

A typescript of an unpublished book, Randolph Edmond's "definitive history of the Negro in the theatre." In the brief Acknowledgements section, Edmonds references a grant-in-aid by a Research Committee at Florida A College where he was teaching. A Forward was to have been written by Allardyce Nicoll, then a Professor of the History of Drama at the University of Birmingham in England. Some of the chapters include, "White Playwrights and Negro Characters," "White Actors in Blackface," "The Negroes Own Efforts," "Negro Stereotypes," "Negro Bands and Jazz," "The Negro Little Theatre Movement," and other chapters on radio, motion pictures, and music and dance in theatre.

Consists of 32 silver prints of Haitians just after the Haitian Revolution of 1946 and into the 1950s. The photographs include images of agricultural and artisanal work, marketplaces, and the streets of Port-au-Prince during the Mardi Gras Carnival. The Robert F. Goheen Papers contain records that Robert F. Goheen kept mainly before and after he was president of Princeton University (1957-1972). They include files Goheen kept as a graduate student, instructor and professor in Princeton University's Department of Classics for the period 1939-1957. The collection also contains U.S. army records for 1942-1945, when Goheen had interrupted his studies for service in the Second World War, and for 1945-1956, when he served in the Officers Reserve Corps. The majority of the files concern Goheen's post-presidential years, when he was Chair of the Council on Foundations (1972-1977), Ambassador to India (1977-1980), and Director of the Mellon Fellowships in the Humanities (1981-1998), as well as Senior Fellow Public and International Affairs at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School. The Dulles papers document his entire public career and his influence on the formation of United States foreign policy, especially for the period when he was Secretary of State, and include his correspondence files, as well as his writings, reports, and memorabilia.

The Records of United Service to China, Inc., known from 1941 to 1946 as United China Relief, Inc., document the activities of the organization from the early formation in 1940 to its official consolidation with the American Bureau for Medical Aid to China in 1966. In addition there is a limited amount of material from other Chinese relief agencies that predate the founding of United China Relief / United Service to China. The Records focus on UCR/USC attempts to raise money in the United States, to educate Americans about China and the Chinese people, and to carry on relief work in China. The collection consists primarily of correspondence among the various individuals and agencies involved with UCR/USC, along with other material produced by the agency, such as minutes and publicity material. In addition, the collection includes a series of photographs dealing with China during the 1940s and efforts in the United States to raise money for China during the same period.

This folder contains photoraphs and photography contact sheets of the Forrestal Campus before and after its 1951 dedication. Included are photographs of the Rockefeller Medical Center grounds on which the Forrestal Campus was built, buildings in which Project Matterhorn experiments were conducted, the construction of the Forrestal Campus, the dedication of the Forrestal Campus, the Plasma Physics Laboratory, the external proton beam building, the Princeton-Penn Accelerator, the chemical kinetics section, and an architectural rendering of the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR). The photographs in this folder focus mainly on Einstein at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, as well as other physicists at IAS. Included are photographs of the grounds of IAS, mainly Fuld Hall. The images of Einstein range from his youth to the age of 72. There are photographs of Einstein's daily life and a photograph of his desk (Einstein's Desk) and Einstein on a bicycle. Subseries 4D: Personal Photographs, circa 1915-2000

This subseries contains personal and travel photographs of Félix Candela, often with his family, including early black-and-white photographs, contemporary color photographs, occasional negatives and slides, and several photograph albums. Early photographs albums from the 1920s-1940s show Candela as a young athlete during his school days in Spain, as well as his trips throughout Spain and Mexico with his first wife, Eladia Martín, and their family. Prior to the Spanish Civil War, Candela was a competitive athlete in Spain, playing for the national rugby team and winning championships in both pole-vaulting and ski-jumping. Of note in this subseries is a group of photographs showing Candela competing in these and other sports, including skiing, mountain-climbing, pole-vaulting, and rugby. Also present are travel shots of Candela in later years, often accompanied by his wife, Dorothy Candela, also an architect, in locations such as British Guiana, the United States, Spain, Iran, Peru, Argentina, Armenia, Bulgaria, and England. Candela's interest in regional design styles is also reflected in his travel photographs, which include many shots of local architecture, ruins, and churches in the various countries he visited. Professor Ansley J. Coale (1917-2002) was a demographer whose work focused on nuptiality, fertility, and mortality in several countries. Coale joined the Princeton University faculty in 1947 and spent his entire career as a member of the university's Office of Population Research (OPR). The papers contain correspondence, Coale's research papers and projects, and samples of data collected. The material spans the several decades (1950s to 1990s) Coale spent as a member of the Princeton faculty, as well as the work he did during his retirement.
