Box 17 contains notebooks (1990 to 1994) of handwritten material Austin used for researching Working a Democratic Constitution. The notebooks include lists of photocopy requests at libraries and archives, lists of papers Austin saw and had copied at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, the Parliament Archives, and the National Archives of India, historical chronologies, lists of interviews to do, and a consolidated address list.

One, dated March 17, 1845, is from Thomas E. Vermilye of New York, to President James K. Polk, recommending Schuyler for employment with the federal government. The other, written from London and dated December 24, 1841, is possibly from Colonel John Church Hamilton (1795-1882), son of Elizabeth Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton, to Philip Schuyler, who at the time was the United States Counsel to Liverpool.

There are two sets of Board of Trustees meeting minutes. The set of minutes in binders (1961-1982, 2000-2008) also contains supplementary information. The minutes in file folders (1961-2009) appear to be a complete run, though some folders refer to the binders for related information, including occasionally minutes.
