Princeton's Graduate School, established officially by the Trustees in late 1900, began its operations in the fall of 1901. These records consist of files of incidental students who earned less than a full semester's worth of credits, as well as the records of visiting fellows.

Consists of manuscripts and correspondence of Welsh writer Arthur Machen collected by Joseph Kelly Vodrey. It also contains an equal amount of manuscripts and correspondence of Machen admirers and collectors, particularly the members of the Machen Society, founded in 1948 after Machen's death.

Mary Chavelita Dunne Bright (pseudonym George Egerton) was a writer and translator in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She was influential in the late-nineteenth century "New Woman" movement as well as the early modernist movement in English-language literature. The collection primarily consists of correspondence between Bright and various friends, family members, and literary and theatrical colleagues. The collection also contains a small number of manuscripts which include prose, poetry, and biographical notes.

The A. Jacobi Papers consists of offprints of writings and lectures, correspondence, memorials, and other miscellanea of the German physician, pediatrician, author, and first professor of children's diseases in the United States Abraham Jacobi (1830-1919).

These pamphlets were collected by the Princeton University Library starting from the outbreak of World War I. The collection contains pamphlets published in Europe during and immediately after World War I. They cover a broad range of topics including the economy, the press, the military, arms, territorial disputes, and others. The collection also includes speeches, sermons, bulletins, calendars, and songbooks.

Lindley M. Garrison (1864-1932) was a lawyer who served as Secretary of War for President Woodrow Wilson from 1913 to 1916. Garrison's papers document his service as Secretary of War and include correspondence, writings, and newspaper clippings.

Consists of letters by Laflin (Princeton Class of 1924) to Helen D. Hill, covering his years at the Lawrenceville School and Princeton University, and typescripts of four of his plays based on religious themes.

Consists primarily of the professional papers of prominent late 19th- and early 20th-century American theatrical stage manager and director William Seymour (1855-1933). The majority of papers include correspondence as well as numerous production-related materials, such as playscripts, promptbooks, and sheet music. Family members, particularly other well-known theater figures, such as Seymour's sister-in-law Fanny Davenport (1850-1898), are also represented in the collection through correspondence, production materials, ephemera, and newspaper clippings.

Consists of a chronological series of 101 mathematical notebooks (1958-1997) of Princeton mathematician Bernard M. Dwork.

The Princeton Crusader Fellowship is a Christian reform organization founded by a group of Princeton students on Commencement Day in 1912. The records consist of member lists, constitutions, speeches, articles, newsletters, and correspondence of the Princeton Crusader Fellowship.

Consists primarily of the correspondence of Josephine Perry Morgan, her husband Junius Spencer Morgan, her daughter Sarah Morgan Gardner, and various other Perry family members. This correspondence concerns mostly family and social matters.

Herbert Adams Gibbons was a journalist and foreign correspondent. Consists of papers of Gibbons from the periods when he was a foreign correspondent (1909-1916) in Greece, Spain, Turkey and other Near Eastern countries, a serviceman with the American Expeditionary Forces in France (1917-1918), and a correspondent (1920-1931) for various American magazines in Europe, the Orient, and Africa.

Gilbert Chinard was a Franco-American scholar who taught at Princeton University and was affiliated with the Institut Français de Washington. The organization, established in 1926 to promote the study of French civilization and culture, endeavors to recognize the French influence in North American culture. The collection houses documents and letters concerning the Institution and an autograph manuscript of James Dunn Hufman's translation of Andre Lasseray's Les Français Sous Les Trieze Etoiles.

The collection consists of documents, correspondence, photographs, and other papers of William Courtenay (1832-1901), an English settler, veteran of the American Civil War, and frontier businessman who held positions in the United States Department of the Interior as postmaster, clerk, and Indian Agent at Fort Berthold, Dakota Territory, from 1874 to 1882. These materials document conditions at the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation and are of particular interest for their documentation of frontier transactions, corruption and mismanagement within the reservation system, and the relationships between the people of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara), the Sioux people, and white settlers.

The Fevzi Çakmak Diaries consists of diaries, a notebook, and a calendar of the Turkish military leader and government official Fevzi Çakmak.

Luther P. Eisenhart taught mathematics at Princeton and was one of the original preceptors appointed in 1905 by Princeton University president Woodrow Wilson. The Luther P. Eisenhart Collection on Woodrow Wilson contains correspondence between Eisenhart and Woodrow Wilson, Eisenhart and others about Woodrow Wilson, letters received by Churchill Eisenhart, and miscellaneous Wilson-related ephemera.

Consists of original manuscripts, drawings, correspondence, miscellaneous materials, photographs and portraits, articles, clippings, and other printed material by and related to the Irish portrait painter John Butler Yeats.

Julia Marlowe (1866-1950), who was also known as Sarah Frances Frost, was an American actress and Shakespearean performer. Her collection consists chiefly of letters to Ida Rissland Perscheid. Also included are photographs of both Marlowe and her husband, E. H. Sothern, articles by and about them, memorabilia, and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings.

Murray S. Peyton ('57) was on the track and football teams while at Princeton and has collected material related to Princeton and Ivy League Track & Field for over 50 years. The collection consists largely of track meet rosters, results, and program magazines.

Consists primarily of correspondence of American writer and editor Robert H. Davis with his friend, lawyer Thomas Baskerville, who was amassing a collection of autographs of famous individuals.

George McLean Harper was a writer and educator in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The collection consists of papers and manuscripts concerning two of Harper's books William Wordsworth, His Life, Works, and Influence (1916) and Wordsworth's French Daughter (1921). There are also papers relating to Harper's poems, stories, articles and speeches, as well as some correspondence.

The William K. Selden Collection on Eating Clubs contains research materials collected by Selden for the publication, Club Life at Princeton; An Historical Account of the Upper-Class Eating Clubs at Princeton University. Selden donated the material to the Archives in 1994.

Consists primarily of correspondence and printed material, along with two diaries from 1926, a matted postcard, a photogravure plate, and a piece of hair jewelry. These family papers primarily center on Alice Holden (née Cort), as the correspondence are letters between members of the Cort family, or letters to her from her children. The collection largely documents the relationships of the Holden and Cort families in New York state between the 19th and 20th centuries.

During World War I, Gilbert Fairchild Close held several positions in the government of President Woodrow Wilson, culminating with that of Stenographer and Private Secretary to the President. The papers document Close's work with Wilson, including the trip Close took to Europe with Wilson for the Paris Peace Conference at the conclusion of World War I.

The Chess Papers of Eugene B. Cook consists of correspondence, copies of classic chess manuscripts and diagrams, and memorabilia of Cook (Class of 1850), as well as notes and printed matter of the Appalachian Mountain Club.

Swydan was a Syrian journalist who emigrated to the United States in 1909. He served as secretary of the Russian Imperial Orthodox Society and the United Syrian Christian Association of North America, and founded a business, S. Swydan and Sons, Russian traders, in Worchester, Mass. The collection consists of papers of Swydan, including correspondence (personal and business, some in Russian), family photographs and negatives, framed documents (including several embroidered floral and Arabic pieces), writings, maps, and newspaper clippings.

William Rankin (Princeton Class of 1886) was an art historian, specializing in Italian art, and was co-author, with Alice Van Vechten Brown, of A Short History of Italian Painting (1914). Consists of correspondence of Rankin.

Ford Madox Ford was a noted British author, poet, and editor. This collection consists of selected manuscripts and correspondence of Ford.

The David Wilkinson Papers consists of the scientific writings, professional correspondence, and subject and project files of David T. Wilkinson (1935-2002), the renowned experimental physicist and cosmologist who taught and conducted research in the Department of Physics at Princeton University from 1963 until his retirement in 2002. Wilkinson was a pioneer in the study and analysis of cosmic microwave background radiation, the nature and existence of which have yielded, through his lifetime's work, solid evidence for the Big Bang theory of the universe's birth. This collection contains the administrative (including his NASA and/or National Science Foundation funding and accounting paperwork) and background history of two of Wilkinson's main projects -- the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) and Microwave Anisotropy Probe (MAP) -- as well as evidence of the many and varied academic activities in his career.

Papaioannou was born in Lamia and grew up in Athens (Greece). She began working as a photographer during the 1930s, concentrating at first on studies of landscapes, monuments and archaeological exhibits. The outbreak of war in 1940 marked a turning point in her career, as she was intensely affected by the suffering of the civilian population of Athens. Realizing the power of her camera to arouse people's conscience, she documented the troops departing for the front, the preparations for the war effort, and the care received by the first casualties. When the capital was in the grip of starvation, she revealed the horrors of war in her moving photographs of emaciated children. After the liberation, as a member of the photographic unit of UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration), she toured the ravaged Greek countryside recording the difficult living conditions faced by its inhabitants. She often exceeded her brief, immortalizing the faces and personal stories of ordinary people in photographs that stressed dignity rather than suffering. During the 1950s Papaioannou's work expressed the optimism that prevailed in the aftermath of the war with respect to both the future of mankind and the restoration of traditional values. Nevertheless, her photographs of the historic Greek landscape are not in the least romantic, but instead portray it as harsh, barren, drenched in light, and its inhabitants proud and independent, despite their poverty. Voula Papaioannou's work represents the trend towards "humanitarian photography" that resulted from the abuse of human rights during the war. Her camera captured her compatriots' struggle for survival with respect, clarity, and a degree of personal involvement that transcends national boundaries and reinforces one's faith in the strength of the common man and the intrinsic value of human life. Taney) was an American singer, actress, and vaudeville performer who worked mainly in stock companies touring the northeastern United States and Canada from the late 1890s through 1904. The collection consists of personal and family correspondence and documents, photographs, play scripts and actor's sides, sheet music, playbills, clippings, and other materials related to her professional career. Some materials also relate to Pauli's husband, Herman Utley Boardman; her performance partner, Robson Dalton; and other members of her family.

An ardent evolutionist, Edwin Grant Conklin specialized in embryology and cytology and was Chairman of the biology department at Princeton from 1908-1933. His collection consists of personal and professional correspondence, documents, manuscripts and notes of articles, lectures, and speeches, many of which reflect his life-long interest in three organisms, crepidula, cynthia (styla), and amphioxus, as well as Darwinism, and heredity and environment.

The Charles Black Hutchinson Papers primarily include Charles Hutchinson's correspondence and schoolwork from the period 1935 to 1944, when Hutchinson was a student at the Lawrenceville School (1935 to 1939), at Princeton University (1939 to 1943), and serving in the Army's 681st Glider Battalion (beginning in 1943).

The PAW is successor to the Alumni Princetonian, a weekly publication of the Daily Princetonian. In 1919 the Princeton Printing Company dissolved and printing of the PAW was taken over by the Princeton University Press. The PAW was a weekly magazine during the school year until changing to its current bi-weekly format in 1977. The magazine is now published during the academic year for alumni and professional staff of the University.

Graduate work in a formal sense emerged at Princeton in the 1870s when President James McCosh added new faculty and graduate fellowships. This collection consists of theses submitted toward the fulfillment of requirements for master's degrees at Princeton University.

Potter was a lifelong British military officer who attained the rank of brigadier-general. He served in Ireland (1898), South Africa (1901-1902), Egypt and Sudan (1903-1913), and World War I (1914-1918); he retired in 1927. Consists primarily of Potter's lengthy correspondence with his mother and future wife while stationed abroad, often during significant British military operations, including censor-stamped envelopes.

Consists of the papers of song-writer, playwright, and poet Clare Beecher Kummer. Included are manuscript plays, musical compositions, songs, verse, and correspondence.

The Dorothy Shipley White Collection encompasses two sets of photographs, one on the life of Charles deGaulle and the other on French Africa. White presumably collected the photographs in preparation for her book, Black Africa and deGaulle (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1979). Mrs. White sent the photographs and negatives of the deGaulle photographs to Princeton in 1989.

Consists of over one hundred photographs documenting the Rowe family in Spokane and Edgecomb, Washington, and Lawrence County, Missouri. Photographs depict sawmills, steam engine threshers, store interiors, Theodore Roosevelt's "Rough Riders," and snapshots of the Rowe family who operated engines and owned farms in Washington state, Missouri, and Kansas.

Rudolf Ladenburg was a German-born scientist who became a nuclear physicist at Princeton University until his retirement in 1950. The collection contains some of Ladenburg's manuscripts, lecture and course notes, and notes on nuclear physics.

Consists of selected correspondence and student account books of Lawrence Crane Woods, a member of the Princeton Class of 1891 and vice president and assistant manager for the Equitable Life Assurance Society.

The Office of Development Communications creates a wide range of publications and other materials to support Princeton's fund-raising initiatives and to keep alumni, parents, and friends closely connected and well-informed about the life of the University. Mahan was a U.S. naval officer in the Civil War, and his work on the importance of adequate navies and merchant marines influenced the policies and philosophies of national leaders across the globe, including those of the 26th president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.

Consists of correspondence between Charles Shipman and various artists and institutions, most notably George deForest Brush and Elliott Dangerfield.

The Princeton Scientific Expeditions Collection brings together original materials from the university archives that document the work of various scientific expeditions conducted under the aegis of Princeton University and its corporate predecessors. The connection with the university ranges from enterprises duly authorized in the trustees' minutes to expeditionary tasks that happen to have been carried out by members of the university faculty, often with little official notice of Princeton as an institution.

This collection includes some playscripts stamped or addressed by theater agencies in Chicago, New York City, and Hollywood, while others were used at McCarter Theater or by the Princeton University Players. There are wartime scripts from both world wars, as well as government plays from the Federal Theater Project, the Works Progress Administration, and the Department of Agriculture's War Food Commission.

Consists of personal papers of archaeologist and art critic Dan Fellows Platt, a member of the Princeton Class of 1895.

The Department of Psychology dates from 1893, but was not officially established as an independent department until 1920. This collection includes group portraits and portraits of deparment faculty as well as some photos of individuals and locations that may not be Princeton-related.

Consists of playbills of New York City theaters from the late 19th century to the present day.

The Auguste Rodin Collection contains over fifty Rodin letters, cards, telegrams, and notes, of which about half are in the hand of the sculptor.

Consists of works, correspondence, documents, photographs, memorabilia, family papers, scrapbooks, and an autograph book (1880) of Charles Grosvenor Osgood, reflecting his role as one of Woodrow Wilson's original preceptors (1905) and the importance of the preceptorial system at Princeton. The collection contains typed manuscripts of Osgood's lectures on Milton, Spenser, and Samuel Johnson, addresses and note cards, and professional correspondence.

The papers of David Aiken Reed (1880-1953) consist primarily of clippings illustrating the political career of Pennsylvania Senator Reed (Class of 1900) during the years 1914-1940 with a few photographs of World War I campaigns, correspondence from President Herbert Hoover, the publisher Henry Luce and General John J. Pershing, Head of the American Expeditionary Forces of World War I, two letters of commendation, a testimonial, three army documents, and printed copies of a few speeches by Senator Reed.

General Sir John Maxwell served in Egypt during the British Occupation, notably participating in the Battle at Omdurman during the reconquest of the Sudan, and in South Africa during the Boer War. In World War I Maxwell returned to Egypt to defend the Suez Canal and briefly served in Ireland after the Sinn Fein Rebellion. Consists of Maxwell's diaries, correspondence, documents, photographs, scrapbooks, memorabilia, printed matter and newspaper clippings.

Bill Bradley (1943- ) was a United States Senator from New Jersey from 1979 to 1995. His papers document his career in the United States Senate and include subject files, copies of his speeches and testimony, press releases, his schedules and appointments, and awards he received. The papers also include the files of members of his legislative, administrative, and state office staff.

The dissertations represent doctoral work in over forty graduate departments. They date from 1877 to the present and they are arranged chronologically.

The Alfred and Mary Gwinn Hodder Papers consists of writings, correspondence, documents, photographs, miscellaneous material, and printed matter of attorney and author Alfred LeRoy Hodder. Also included are similar papers of his wife, Mary Gwinn Hodder, who was a professor of English literature.

The Felice and Mildred Morris Autograph Collection consists of letters from numerous 19th- and early 20th-century actors, actresses, playwrights, and others associated with the theater, collected by the Morrises. Included are James Matthew Barrie, Edwin Booth, Dion Boucicault, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Wilkie Collins, Charlotte Cushman, Clyde Fitch, Charles Dana Gibson, Laurence Hutton, Louis Napoleon Parker, Adelina Patti, William Seymour, Otis Skinner, and Kate Wiggin.
