Gilbert Chinard Collection of French Historical Material, 1494-1905 (mostly 1761-1885)
Contains historical and literary manuscripts collected by Gilbert Chinard (1881-1972), a Franco-American scholar who was associated with the Institut Français de Washington from 1928 and was Pyne Professor of French at Princeton University, 1937-50. His published work was on French literature and the history of Franco-American relations.

The Gordon Merrick Papers consist primarily of drafts of the manuscripts of Merrick's novels, written over a thirty-nine year period, from the late 1940s ( The Strumpet Wind, 1947) to the mid-1980s ( Measure of Madness, 1986). Also present is his business and financial correspondence with agents, publishers, and banks over a twenty-one year period, from 1967 until his death in 1988. In addition there is a clipping file which dates back to Merrick's first experiences as an actor in the 1930s, as well as photographs taken for publicity as well as for Merrick's personal collection.

I go to seek fame, hard is the task, great the danger, but greater will be the honour with none shall I more gladly share it than with you my Boy – honours, kindness, flattering testimonials ......... dear to me as a Brother, revered as a friend – get thee married; I shall the moment I get back ....... God bless you, give you every happiness, adieu believe the sincerity of your attached friend". No place, 29th August no year, but 1835. Written as he sets out on his last and fatal journey.

Having much to my heart's content and ultimate hope of great mental, bodily, spiritual advantage united myself in holy matrimony with one so eminent for all goodly endowments having received most unequivocal kindness from the parents of the lady chosen ......, I resolved to take a Continental Expedition ..... so having been joined at her father's church in the parish of Hill Hall, Essex, we repaired to Shenley, to ... my good brother Hamilton. We visited several places in the vicinity, then came to London preparatory to our excursion – so that on the day above inscribed, we started from Tower Stairs in the Nerai packet for Ostend, embarking our carriage ourselves". They travel from Ostend to Bruges, Aix la Chapelle, Cologne, Coblentz, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Milan, Verona, Padua, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Messina, Syracuse, Malta, Gibraltar, Lisbon; arriving back in London on 20th April, 1840: "We have enjoyed wonderful health, have seen wonderful things, been by land water about 5,000 miles".

Granville Austin (1927-2014) was an independent scholar and political historian known for his work on India's constitution. The collection is composed of Granville Austin's research files on India, mostly in the form of published articles or book excerpts that Austin collected and often annotated. The majority of the research files, notes and drafts relate to Austin's second book, Working a Democratic Constitution, but some files relate to his first book, The Indian Constitution: Cornerstone of a Nation. Folders consist of official historical documents regarding the Greek War of Independence. Included are autograph documents of the Provisional Administration of Greece to the Executive Body of the Ministry of Defense signed by the Minister Adam Douka, in Nauplion, 1825; Ministry of Finance to the National Treasury in order to provide money to Vassos Maurovouniōtēs to pay salaries to his soldiers and documents of the Ministry of Religious Affairs signed by the minister Iōsēph Androusēs. Document signed by the Minister of Finance Nikolaos Poneropoulos, in Nauplion, 1825. A similar document from the Minister of Defense signed by its president Geōrgios Kountouriōtēs and the members Iōannēs Kōlettēs and Kōnstantinos Mauromichalēs. A document from the Ministry of Culture to Vassos Maurovouniōtēs regarding his promotion as a Colonel signed in Nauplion on July 26, 1824. There is also an identical copy of a document dated April 14, 1828 in Aigina that lists the number of the soldiers that Adam Doukas had under his command in the battle of Trikeri.
