Philip W. Anderson Papers, 1954-2012

Philip Anderson was a condensed-matter theorist, Professor Emeritus of Physics at Princeton University, and Nobel laureate. This collection consists primarily of Anderson's research files, which include his article and book drafts, grant files, notes, memos and correspondence, a bound run of his talks and papers, and his research diaries and notebooks. To a lesser extent, the collection contains Nobel Prize nomination applications, recommendation letters, photographic prints, and ephemera.

Rose Photography Studio Collection of Glass-Plate Negatives, circa 1880-1920

The Rose Photography Studio of Princeton, New Jersey was founded in 1873 by Royal Hill Rose, and was operated by successive generations of the Rose family until 1951. The studio provided photography services for the Princeton community as well as Princeton University. The collection consists of approximately 700 glass-plate negatives of images of Princeton University taken by the Rose Photography Studio. The negatives depict campus events, alumni reunions, class photographs, and student groups.

James A. Baker III served in senior government positions under three United States Presidents and was a central figure in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George Bush in the 1980s and early 1990s. Baker also led presidential campaigns for Presidents Gerald Ford, Reagan and Bush over the course of five consecutive presidential elections from 1976 to 1992. The papers document nearly every stage of Baker's career, including his work on presidential campaigns, his time as White House Chief of Staff for both Reagan and Bush, and his terms as Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan and Secretary of State under Bush.

Series 14: Audiovisual Materials, 1405-1994

The Audiovisual series consists of videotapes and sound recordings documenting Baker's career in government and politics. The majority of tapes in the series are VHS videotapes of Baker's appearances on television news programs or recordings of television news stories that include mention of Baker. Some recordings of speeches and public appearances are also available. The videocassettes created between 1988 and 1992, during Baker's years at the State Department, often contain multiple programs or events on a single tape. In addition to the contents list, a more detailed index to the State Department "Master Tapes" is available in Box 262.

Series 1: Personal and Legal Career, 1930-1980

The Personal and Legal Career series documents Baker's personal and professional life prior to his involvement in Texas and national politics. The series consists of correspondence, including correspondence with family and friends, diaries and date books, financial documents, legal documents, memos, and correspondence related to Baker's work at Andrews, Kurth, Campbell and Jones law firm, and personal documents such as a birth certificate and scholastic records.

Antioch Excavation Financial Records, 1935-1938

Formed in 1932, the Committee for the Excavation of Antioch and its Vicinity was chaired by Princeton University's Charles Rufus Morey and included representatives from the Louvre, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Worcester Art Museum, the Fogg Art Museum, and Dumbarton Oaks. Consists of detailed expense vouchers from the second half of the excavation of Antioch.

Also included are eight volumes of photographs taken by Alfred M. Mayer during scientific expeditions to the islands of the Pacific Ocean.
