The Pyne-Henry Collection is a diverse group of documents, letters and writings relating to Princeton University, covering an array of topics primarily concerning student life and administrative activities. The collection consists of letters, essays and orations, reports, memoranda, minutes, proclamations, accounts and class lists, and other documents written by students, faculty and administrators which, along with other administrative records and Trustee Minutes, constitute the earliest records and documentary history of the University. Most of these papers and records were amassed by Princeton alumni Moses Taylor Pyne (Class of 1877) and Bayard Henry (Class of 1876) during the latter half of the nineteenth century.

Included are correspondence, general subject files, and records pertaining to grants, research endowments, publications, and administrative matters such as budgets and staffing. Bayard Taylor Putnam (1854-1886) was geological surveyor in the Division of Mining Geology for the United States Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) from the founding of the agency in 1879 to the early 1880s. This collection consists of Putnam's professional papers, including correspondence and field notes, which document his work with the U.S.G.S, specifically his surveys of iron-ore and coal mines for the Tenth U.S. Census. His papers also relate to a patented combined protractor and chart holder that Putnam invented. Other Putnam family members, particularly his wife, Grace Haven Putnam (1855-1900), are also represented.

Julius Hall and Jared Kimberly Papers of the 1st California Regiment, 1804-1927 (mostly 1861-1913)

Julius C. Hall and his friend Jared T. Kimberly grew up together in rural Wallingford, Connecticut, and went to California to seek their fortunes during the early days of the Civil War. Hiking through the wilderness from San Francisco to Oregon, they nearly lost their lives in an Indian attack, before enlisting together in Company K of the 1st California Infantry Regiment, which embarked on an epic march from San Francisco to Fort Craig in New Mexico. This collection contains first-hand accounts of these two men's Civil War service as they encountered the occasional Confederate sympathizer, but more often Apaches and Navajos who were resisting American encroachment into their territory.

The New York Urban League was founded circa 1913. Its stated goals were to "promote sympathetic understanding between white and colored people" and to improve the economic status of African-Americans through health, housing, and recreation programs as well as an effort to increase the number and the quality of jobs for minorities. The League's motto: "Not alms, but opportunity." This collection is comprised mainly of the correspondence of Arthur C. Holden, president of the N.Y. Urban League from 1922-1931, and a member of the executive board until 1943. It contains general files of the organization's correspondence predominantly spanning the years 1922-1933, with a few items from the years 1968-1979.
