Series 1: Author Files, 1920-1972
Contains, alphabetically by author, correspondence and manuscripts of a variety of writers, including W. H. Auden, Isak Dinesen, Edgar Snow, and Gertrude Stein, that Commins collected during his work as chief editor at Random House. There is also a large section of Eugene O'Neill material, consisting of correspondence between the Comminses and the O'Neills, galleys of O'Neill's major plays, and photographs of the two couples.

Consists of the papers of Saxe Commins, concentrating primarily while he was chief editor at Random House (1933-1958). Commins worked with many major writers of the literary world, such as Eugene O'Neill and William Faulkner, as well as Irwin Shaw and Budd Schulberg. Commins also compiled several collections of others' works, such as "The Public Papers and Addresses of Franklin D. Roosevelt" and "Major Speeches of Adlai E. Stevenson."

Researchers will find oral history interviews, photocopies of original documents regarding Berg's associates, photocopies of original documents regarding Berg dating from 1921 to his death in 1972, and published material about Berg.

The Officer Files series is largely composed of the papers of George Beebe (chairman, executive director, and director of projects), Executive Director Dana R. Bullen, and European Representative Ronald Koven. Beebe's files include correspondence, articles, and conference materials predominantly related to UNESCO and WPFC projects, as well as the administration of the WPFC. Bullen's papers include copies of his statements and materials he collected to write his book Voices of Freedom: The Story of the World Press Freedom Committee (2002). Koven's papers consist of reports and articles he wrote, with a small amount of related correspondence. The series also includes statements by numerous members of WPFC.

The Correspondence series contains some of Clark's father's correspondence, particularly a letter signed by J. Edgar Hoover. Included in Clark's own correspondence are thank you notes and informal letters from John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The notes are conversational in tone. Letters signed "Jack" are from his days in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Kennedy also thanks him for gifts and congratulates him on a new job. Mrs. Kennedy thanks Clark for Christmas gifts, discusses a wedding present to Clark's son, and looks forward to visiting with him on Martha's Vineyard.

This subseries consists of a variety of material gathered together by the ACLU as "miscellaneous" and of material placed under that heading by the processors of this project. It includes correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts, press releases, clippings, articles, legal documents, and bail bonds and is arranged chronologically. It includes materials on presidential elections from 1948 to 1964 and on election and campaign reform including statements and testimony by members of the ACLU and also questionnaires of candidate's views on civil liberties issues; information on municipal and state ordinances as well as a book of cancelled bail bonds from 1927-1931, showing the grassroots legal efforts of the ACLU to defend the rights of those associated with unpopular organizations; yearly compilations of "Descriptive Summaries of ACLU Case Actions Taken in Defense of Civil Liberties" (1946-1953); "Reference Books" compiled by the staff of the ACLU (1921-1946) containing memoranda of law and summary reports related to various civil liberties issues; information on films and television programs about civil liberties, such as "Inherit the Wind" and a television program on Sacco and Vanzetti; and manuscripts relating to civil liberties topics written by staffers of the ACLU and also by those outside the organization and submitted to the ACLU for approval or editorial comment. There are also a few files containing correspondence from the 1940s and 1950s which was at that time considered "confidential" and a "Survey of Communist-Oriented Organizations and Publications" compiled at the request of Roger Baldwin in 1946.

The subject files consist of records gathered by the ACLU on various topics of interest pertaining to its mission. The records here are divided into four broad categories: Freedom of Belief, Expression, and Association; Due Process of Law; Equality Before the Law; and International Civil Liberties. Except for International Civil Liberties, each is then further subdivided alphabetically by topic. Generally, the subject files contain background material on a topic, as well as correspondence, memoranda, and other items documenting the ACLU's involvement with the issue.
Subseries 3A.10: Freedom of Belief, Expression, and Association: Labor and Business, 1937-1978
This subseries (5.04 linear feet) contains various legal, administrative, and correspondence files relating to the ACLU's involvement in the protection of union and employee rights. The records also contain newspaper clippings and reprints of ACLU-published documents relating to labor unions and business practices.

Series 1: Princeton Inn Records, 1922-1970 consists primarily of the minute books of the Princeton Inn Company, which generally discuss the financial state of the Inn, and cover both the Inn Company's incorporation (and Alumni appeal for funding) as well as the final sale of the Inn and its assets to the University. It also includes an oversized form book containing examples of various forms and vouchers used at the hotel.
