He served as secretary of the Russian Imperial Orthodox Society and the United Syrian Christian Association of North America, and founded a business, S. Swydan and Sons, Russian traders, in Worchester, Mass. The collection consists of papers of Swydan, including correspondence (personal and business, some in Russian), family photographs and negatives, framed documents (including several embroidered floral and Arabic pieces), writings, maps, and newspaper clippings.
