The Louis Fischer Papers include correspondence, interviews, articles and notes, lectures and speeches, photographs, and audiovisual materials that document his life as a journalist, writer, and commentator on international affairs. They also include the papers of his wife, Bertha Markoosha Fischer, an author in her own right, as well as family correspondence and papers. In the latter part of his life Fischer was affiliated with of the Institute for Advanced Study (1959-1961) and Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (1961-1969).

The collection consists mainly of playbills, photographs, and clippings of press announcements and reviews of the University Players, a youthful group of Princetonians aspiring toward careers in the performing arts. Not entirely comprised of Princeton alumni and undergraduates, however, the organization provided experience and training for many hopefuls who have in fact succeeded in that goal. Taking its name from an earlier group with the same ambitions and who also made great contributions to American theatre and film, it provided the Princeton community with some exciting and meritorious summer theatre for more than a decade.

The photographs are generally black-white glossy 8x10 prints; however, 5x7 prints are also found within the collection. The photographs are arranged in general topics, and then alphabetically within each subject. New accruals are added on to the end of the collection and maintained in the order in which they were transferred.

Forrestal Campus, circa 1941-1974

This folder contains photoraphs and photography contact sheets of the Forrestal Campus before and after its 1951 dedication. Included are photographs of the Rockefeller Medical Center grounds on which the Forrestal Campus was built, buildings in which Project Matterhorn experiments were conducted, the construction of the Forrestal Campus, the dedication of the Forrestal Campus, the Plasma Physics Laboratory, the external proton beam building, the Princeton-Penn Accelerator, the chemical kinetics section, and an architectural rendering of the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR). Also included are photographs of the Cyclotron running schedule in Jadwin Hall and the Biochemical Sciences Laboratory (Hoyt). Photographs of the following individuals are included: Queen Elizabeth II (?), a bust of Secretary of Defense James Forrestal, Secretary of Defense Robert Lovett, Lewis Strauss, Peter Forrestal, Michael Forrestal, Dodds, Governor Alfred Driscoll, Assistant Secretary of Energy Robert D. Thorne, and Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor Project Manarger Paul J. Reardon.

IAS - Einstein, circa 1933-1965

The photographs in this folder focus mainly on Einstein at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, as well as other physicists at IAS. Included are photographs of the grounds of IAS, mainly Fuld Hall. The images of Einstein range from his youth to the age of 72. There are photographs of Einstein's daily life and a photograph of his desk (Einstein's Desk) and Einstein on a bicycle. Also included are the image of Einstein and David Ben-Gurion on the Einsteins' lawn in Princeton, as well as a photograph of Einstein on a bike in front of his home in Santa Barbara. Other physicists in these photographs include: David Ben Gurian,Arnold Toynbee, Gerald Clemence, Eugene Wigner, Kurt Godel, Rudolf Ladenberg, Niels Bohr, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Freeman Dyson, and Nobel Laureates Tsung Dao Lee and Chen Ning Yang.

Emmet Hughes Papers, 1940-1976 (mostly 1952-1974)

Emmet John Hughes (1920-1982) was a journalist and speechwriter. The collection is primarily composed of drafts, research files, reviews, and other materials pertaining to various books and articles written by Hughes. The collection also documents Hughes's work as a speechwriter for Dwight D. Eisenhower in the presidential campaigns of 1952 and 1956 and the first year of Eisenhower's presidency, as well as his role as a political advisor and speechwriter for Governor Nelson Rockefeller's 1968 presidential bid.

The Robert F. Goheen Papers contain records that Robert F. Goheen kept mainly before and after he was president of Princeton University (1957-1972). They include files Goheen kept as a graduate student, instructor and professor in Princeton University's Department of Classics for the period 1939-1957. The collection also contains U.S. army records for 1942-1945, when Goheen had interrupted his studies for service in the Second World War, and for 1945-1956, when he served in the Officers Reserve Corps. The majority of the files concern Goheen's post-presidential years, when he was Chair of the Council on Foundations (1972-1977), Ambassador to India (1977-1980), and Director of the Mellon Fellowships in the Humanities (1981-1998), as well as Senior Fellow Public and International Affairs at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School. In addition, the collection contains some speech notes Goheen kept and some photographs of Goheen from his tenure as President of Princeton University.
