Consists of a closed collection of more than 5,000 Western Americana photographs, consisting mostly of documentary photographs of the Trans-Mississippi West from the late 1860s to early 1900s, largely from the perspective of white photographers and settlers. Subjects include American Indians (especially studio portraits), natural wonders, cities, towns, buildings, and economic activities (mining, railroads, logging, and agriculture). Some photographs relate to the Indigenous populations of Mexico and Central America. The dimensions, physical formats, and photographic processes of the photographs vary widely.

The papers of Whiting Willauer (1906-1962) reflect Willauer's entire career, but focus most strongly on the period from 1941 to 1954 when Willauer was in China and worked for China Defense Supplies, Inc. (1941-1944), the Foreign Economic Administration (1944-1945), the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration [NRRA] (1946-1947), and Civil Air Transport, Inc. (1946-1954). The papers also document his positions as an admiralty lawyer for the New York City law firm, Bingham, Dana and Gould (1931-1938), as Attorney, Criminal Division at the Department of Justice and Special Assistant to United States Attorney General (1929-1940), Special Counsel for the Federal Power Commission (1941), and his appointments as United States Ambassador to Honduras (1954-1958) and Costa Rica (1958-1961). In addition, materials which reflect Willauer's role as a delegate to the Organization of American States' Meetings of Foreign Ministers (August 1960) and to the United Nations General Assembly (October 1960) are found in the papers.

Series I: Biographical Materials includes a folder of notes written by Whiting Willauer about himself, as well as a folder of general biographical material about Willauer. Also included is a subseries of educational material, which contains correspondence and grade cards from Willauer's school days at Saint Albans, Stone School, and Princeton University.

Consists of selected papers of Thornton Wilder, the celebrated American novelist and playwright, winner of three Pulitzer Prizes.

Clinton Wilder (Princeton Class of 1943) was an American theatrical producer. His collection consists of playbills he collected as well as typescripts and production materials of plays he produced.

Consists of papers of the American author and novelist Wendell Wilcox (1906-1981), including personal correspondence and photographs of his wife, Esther Willson Wilcox, their relatives, and other writers and friends.

Consists of the papers of Hungarian-born, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Eugene Wigner, and includes correspondence, subject files, writings, and offprints reflecting his long career in physics.

Hans A. Widenmann (1897-1976) was a stockbroker and economist with expertise in national and international monetary affairs. His successful business career was largely spent at Loeb, Rhoades & Company, and he was also frequently called upon to speak about international finance subjects. Widenmann's papers document his career at Loeb, Rhoades & Company and include his correspondence and writings, topical files, and biographical files.

The papers of Violetta Susan Elizabeth White Delafield, consist of her writings, correspondence, documents, photographs, memorabilia, and miscellaneous material. Her writings and notes deal with her research in mycology and horticulture, and much of the correspondence reflects these topics. In addition, there is correspondence with family members such as her sister and brother, Lucy A. White Morris and Alain C. White. The documents contain papers of the White family as well as correspondence bearing on their estate. Material regarding the annual meetings of the Garden Club of America makes up the bulk of the miscellaneous material series.

The papers of Prosper Montgomery Wetmore, grandfather of Violetta White Delafield, consist of twelve bound volumes (1818-1874) of correspondence, as well as loose material including letters by Wetmore, genealogical papers, miscellaneous material, and printed matter. The bound volumes contain correspondence between Wetmore and his family, business, policial, civic, and Eleventh Regiment New York State Militia colleagues, also some of his poems and essays, documents, maps, miscellaneous material, and printed matter. Some of the correspondents included in the bound volumes are Townsend Harris, William H. Seward, Benson J. Lossing, William Cullen Bryant, and Martin Van Buren.

The papers of Richard Delafield, great-uncle of John Ross Delafield, consist of correspondence, photographs, genealogical papers, photocopies, and printed matter. The correspondence contains letters by Delafield, soldier and military engineer, in reference to army and engineering matters, some letters to family members, and letters about him sent to John Ross Delafield by the archivist of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. There is a photograph of Delafield taken while he was superintendent of West Point as well as photocopies of letters, an army order, reports, and sheet music of the "Florida March" and the "Manassas March," both dedicated to Delafield.

The Dorothy Shipley White Collection encompasses two sets of photographs, one on the life of Charles deGaulle and the other on French Africa. White presumably collected the photographs in preparation for her book, Black Africa and deGaulle (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1979). Mrs. White sent the photographs and negatives of the deGaulle photographs to Princeton in 1989.

American Charles William White wrote historical novels about artists and writers under the pen name of "Max White." Active as a historical fiction writer primarily in the 1930s through 1950s, White traveled in the same social circles as Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. The collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence of Charles William White ("Max White"), including correspondence with Alice B. Toklas and Gertrude Stein.

This series contains manuscript materials for several of White's works of fiction and drama, including various manuscripts, copies, and drafts of his novels, short stories, and plays, occasionally in several versions.

Consists of signed typescripts and galley proofs for four works of historical fiction by author Jere Wheelwright (1905-1961), (Princeton Class of 1927).

Thomas J. Wertenbaker was a professor of history at Princeton from 1910 to 1936, serving as department chairman from 1928-1936.

Thomas Jefferson Wertenbaker was an American historian who taught at Princeton from 1910 to 1947. He was internationally recognized and wrote a number of important historical works. In 1947, he was president of the American Historical Association. His papers consist of Wertenbaker's works, correspondence, photographs, miscellaneous material, and printed matter.

Consists of correspondence with individuals, publishing companies, and academic institutions.

Werner (pseudonym of Alexander Schifrin) was a Russian native who was exiled to Germany (1923-1933) and subsequently lived in France (1933-1939) and the United States (1940-1951). Consists of selected papers of Werner

Kurt Weitzmann left his native Germany in 1935 for Princeton where he spent the remainder of his life, at the Institute for Advanced Study as a permanent member (1935-1972) and as a professor in Princeton University's Dept. of Art and Archaeology (1945-1972). Included are personal and professional correspondence, related files, course outlines, lectures, manuscripts and notes for various published works, scrapbooks of clippings, and printed matter.

Consists primarily of the issue and correspondence files of the independent literary journal of the same name that was founded in 1943 by Warren Carrier, and co-edited and published from 1944-1999 by the husband and wife team of poet and former Princeton professor Theodore (Ted) and editor and author Renée Weiss. Also present in the collection are manuscripts of, and associated material from, eleven of Theodore Weiss's thirteen published books of poetry.

Consists of the almost complete files (1943-1999) of manuscripts submitted to the QRL for publication with the exception of a few issues from 1944, 1945, 1974-1977, and 1981 (see the Box/Folder listing for Boxes 1-26 for the specific issues not present in the collection). The majority of the issue files (Volumes I-XXXVIII) contain original typescripts for the poetry, short stories, articles, and reviews that were published. Only some of the typescripts are signed or include autograph corrections by the author, while others include editorial corrections. Some files also contain galley proofs in various forms. The box housing the David Schubert issue files (Volume XXIV, 1983) contains correspondence from Schubert, his friends, wife, and others who contributed material to the publication of this special volume. The box containing the QRL's 50 th Anniversary issue manuscripts (Volume XXXII-III, 1993; specifically Folder 4 in Box 22) includes cover letters from the contributing authors. In addition, a small amount of author correspondence associated with the submitted manuscripts remains in the issue files. However, the bulk of the QRL correspondence is contained in Series 2. Please refer to the Author?Issue Index for an alphabetical listing of all the authors published in the QRL from 1943-1999, and the volumes in which they appeared. Photocopies of the table of contents page for each QRL issue (Volumes I to XXXVIII), as well as photocopies of indexes (where found) for Volumes I-XXII, are available in the Department's collection files for public reference.

Consists of professional and personal correspondence, travel diaries and related ephemera, notebooks, writings, and files relating to the Quarterly Review of Literature (QRL) of editor and writer Renée Karol Weiss (1923-2021). Some materials relate specifically to Renée's husband, poet and professor Theodore Weiss (1916-2003).

Consists of the publishing and administrative records of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, a British publishing company founded by George Weidenfeld (1919-2016) and Nigel Nicolson (1917-2004), which specialized in literary fiction and nonfiction, with an emphasis on history, biographies and memoirs, books by world leaders and political figures, glossy illustrated books, travel guides, and reference books. The collection documents the operations of the firm from its establishment in 1948 through its sale in 1991, and also includes some later records from as recent as 2012 related to its continued operation as an imprint of the Orion Publishing Group.

The Warner Bros. Screenplays consists of a large collection of scripts for films produced by the Warner Bros. studio.

Arthur Cyrus Warner (1918-2007) was an activist in the gay liberation movement, focusing his efforts on legal reform to protect the civil liberties of the gay community. Warner's papers document his involvement in legal reform and other issues pertaining to gay rights. The papers largely consist of legislative and court documents about cases affecting gay civil liberties, and related memoranda, correspondence, and writings.
