Félix Candela was an influential Spanish-born architect and structural engineer, known for his innovative designs using reinforced thin-shell concrete to create the highly efficient hyperbolic parabaloid shapes used in his construction of many well-known churches, factories, and other buildings, primarily in and around Mexico City in the mid-20th century. The collection consists of professional and personal papers, including photographic files documenting his projects, architectural drawings and designs, drafts of lectures and published papers, correspondence, appointment books, student notebooks and artwork, personal photographs and albums, awards and certificates, architectural reference books and magazines, construction materials catalogs, and clippings on various architecture and design topics and on Candela's own work.

Series 5: Reference and Clippings Files, 1767-2005 (mostly 1939-1997)

This series includes clippings and print materials related to architecture in general, as well as to Candela's own work, that he collected along with his papers as reference materials. After his exile from Spain following the Spanish Civil War, Candela never continued his formal study of architecture. Instead, during his early years in Mexico, he educated himself on the topic of thin-shell construction through independent reading and subscribing to various architectural journals and reviews, some of which he retained and are included in this series.

Subseries 1A: Complete and Final Minutes of Faculty Meetings, 1781-2010

The Complete and Final Minutes subseries groups together the faculty minutes in their bound, final form. The eighteenth and nineteenth century minutes consist mostly of entries written carefully in minutes books; the minutes from the twentieth century to the present also include printed reports and documents from various committees. Minutes from the later half of the twentieth century to the present include an agenda for the next meeting. Beginning in 1968 and ending in 1984, abstracts (or summaries) were created in the interest of transparency. These abstracts form subseries 1B and, from June 1970 to June 1984, are not restricted. Since 1984, the clerk of the faculty no longer wrote up an abstract in addition to minutes, and simply wrote abstracts as if they were the actual minutes. For this reason, the minutes of the faculty from 1984 to the present are not restricted. Clerks of the faculty changed frequently, and they each put their own stamp on the format and content of the minutes.

Henry R. Labouisse (1904-1987) was a distinguished American diplomat and international public servant. He served as director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from 1954 to 1958 and as executive director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) from 1965 to 1979. He also served as a United States government official working on the formation and implementation of foreign economic policies during World War II and the 1960s. Labouisse's papers document his career with the United Nations and with the State Department and include correspondence, speeches and publications, as well as biographical and genealogical material.

The collection documents the career of Richard Rush (Princeton Class of 1797) as lawyer, statesman, and diplomat, emphasizing diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Great Britain while he was minister to Great Britain (1817-1825) and between the United States and France when he was minister to France (1847-1849), as well as his successful efforts (1836-1838) in securing the Smithsonian bequest, which was used to establish the Smithsonian Institution. The papers of Richard Rush constitute the larger part of the collection; letters of his father, Benjamin Rush, M.D. (Princeton Class of 1760), and papers of his son, Benjamin Rush (Princeton Class of 1829, constitute the other major groups of papers in this family archive.

The papers of William A. Eddy (1896-1962), educator, diplomat, minister to Saudi Arabia, intelligence agent, and college president, focus on his presidency of Hobart College (1936-1941), his work in U.S. - Middle East policy, and his family life in the period from 1917-1962. The holdings of his personal and family correspondence is extensive. The collection contains all correspondence from his term as president of Hobart College, 1936-1941. Many military documents are included, especially in the years 1941-1946 (the planning of the North African landings, the FDR/Ibn Saud meeting, the Treaty of the Yemen). There are many geneological papers and letters from Eddy's relatives concerning American missionary work in the Middle East. There are numerous publications concerning 18th C. English literature, religious and civic duties, U.S. Foreign policy re Israel and the Arabs, and sociological accounts of the Middle East. The collection is composed of personal/professional correspondence, documents, diaries and notebooks, addresses, publications, manuscripts of Eddy's books and articles (including unpublished MSs), scrapbooks, photographs, negatives, and memorabilia.

The Personal Files series contains materials about Kennan's career, as well as his personal life. The majority of the series is composed of newspaper articles, either clippings or arranged in scrapbooks, about Kennan which cover his entire career at the State Department and at the Institute for Advanced Study, as well as his opinions on current events and his retirement. Also included are recordings of interviews, lectures, conferences, and television programs by or about Kennan, his appointment calendars from 1965 and 1970-2000, papers for classes he taught at Princeton University, and materials he provided to his official biographer John Gaddis, notably the FBI's file on Kennan. The type and amount of information recorded about each student changed frequently from Registrar to Registrar, and as such the Student Records series contains several different forms of student academic data ranging from yearly course grades to attendance records to full academic transcripts. The most common forms of student records include scholastic cards, which contain the courses taken and grades awarded to students by term, and registration cards, which contain basic biographical information at the time of entrance to the University and the results of entrance examinations.

General Sir John Maxwell served in Egypt during the British Occupation, notably participating in the Battle at Omdurman during the reconquest of the Sudan, and in South Africa during the Boer War. In World War I Maxwell returned to Egypt to defend the Suez Canal and briefly served in Ireland after the Sinn Fein Rebellion. Consists of Maxwell's diaries, correspondence, documents, photographs, scrapbooks, memorabilia, printed matter and newspaper clippings.

Series 3: Maps and Surveys, 1849-1981 contains originals and copies of maps and surveys of Princeton University land that were intended to represent the campus and other University lands as they existed. This is in contrast to maps, plans and surveys in the records of the Office of Physical Planning, which were created as part of the planning and development process and may or may not represent what actually existed. In addition to professionally produced and published maps, this series also contains several student surveys of portions of university land from the early 20th century, possibly created as part of an academic course.

The Washington, D.C. Regional Office records document the ACLU's involvement with national legislation and government actions. The records include testimony of ACLU staff, correspondence lobbying legislators, publications and correspondence to mobilize public opinion, and the ACLU's research materials, including documents released by the government through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The office addressed any legislation or government practices which involved civil liberties concerns. Areas of particular concern include government abuse of power, especially denial of due process in the name of national security, the legality of intelligence gathering and covert operations of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), governmental secrecy and the rights of citizens to information, and immigration and international travel to and from the United States.
