Carol Pitchersky Papers, 1963-2008
Carol Pitchersky (1947-2004) was a fundraiser and consultant who helped bring financial stability to dozens of public interest groups, notably the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). She served as Associate Director in charge of development and strategic planning at the ACLU and as a consultant to other prominent nonprofit organizations. The papers document Pitchersky's work as a fundraiser at the ACLU during the 1980s and for public interest groups in the 1970s and 1990s.

William O. Baker Papers, 1912-2008
William O. Baker (1915-2005) was a prominent research chemist, head of Bell Laboratories, and a frequent advisor to the government on scientific affairs and technology. His government service spanned from the Truman administration through the Bush administration and focused on intelligence gathering and national security issues. Baker's papers document his government service beginning with President Eisenhower, as well as his career at Bell Labs, and include correspondence, writings, and reports.
Series 2: Biographical, 1912-2008
The Biographical series contains materials regarding Baker's career and life and includes articles, interviews and oral histories, his diaries, awards and appointments, family correspondence, photographs, and weekly schedules for his retirement years. The articles include papers written by and about Baker regarding his life, as well as materials collected by A. Michael Noll on three CDs. The earlier diaries include references to his research at Bell Labs, while diaries beginning in the 1950s are predominantly concerned with his daily life. The awards and appointments materials include awards certificates, correspondence about accepted the awards and congratulations, his acceptance speeches, programs, and articles. Most awards are from academic and professional organizations or corporations for his contributions to science, from government agencies for his service, and honorary degrees from universities. The photographs include portraits of Baker, Baker receiving awards, at events, or with members of boards he served on, and personal photographs of unidentified people and landscapes. The weekly schedules record meetings and events that Baker attended, and also include correspondence about the events, itineraries, and expenses.

William Dodge Horne collection of Ernest Hemingway, 1928-2012
William Horne and Ernest Hemingway were lifelong friends. Horne met Hemingway while a volunteer ambulance driver for the American Red Cross during World War I. They were stationed in Schio, Italy, and drove together on the same ambulance. After Hemingway's failed engagement to Agnes von Kurowsky, they shared an apartment in Chicago during the fall of 1920. When Hemingway married Hadley Richardson in September 1921, Horne was in the wedding party. When the writer died in 1961, Horne was an honorary pallbearer. Contains eight Horne-Hemingway items: a copy of a photograph of Frances Horne [Bunny] and Hemingway in Wyoming in 1928; an autograph signed letter by Ernest Hemingway (with postcript by wife Pauline) to "Dearest Bunny and Horney" [Frances and William Horne], dated 9 September [1929], 2 pp., with envelope; an autograph signed letter by Hemingway to "Dear 'Orny" [Horne], dated 1 June [1930], 2 pp., with 5 pp. of fishing gear advertisements with holograph annotations, with envelope; a typed letter (copy) (dictated to Pauline by Hemingway) to "Dear Horny," dated 23 November [1930], on hospital X-ray form; a typed letter (copy) (dictated to Pauline by Hemingway) to "Dear Horney," dated 26 December [1930], 1 p.; autograph signed letter by Hemingway to "Dear Horney" [William Horne], dated 25 March [1931], 1 p., with envelope; a color copy of a telegram sent by Mary and Ernest Hemingway to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dodge Horne on the occasion of their wedding, 17 September 1955; and a compact disc recording of "Memories of Ernest Hemingway by William Dodge Horne, Jr., whose grandson, William C. With the exception of the Norman Sherman and the Bush administration files, all of the transcription files contain typed transcripts of interviews that Purdum conducted with the file's subject, mainly for Vanity Fair. A number of files include a small amount of clippings, notes, and e-mail correspondence related to the subject of the file.

Todd S. Purdum (1959-) is a political journalist whose work has appeared in a number of publications, including Vanity Fair, The New York Times, and POLITICO. The collection is mostly composed of Purdum's research materials on various political and cultural figures created for his work with Vanity Fair. Other noteworthy materials in the collection relate to Purdum's senior thesis written for Princeton University's History Department on the Eisenhower-era State Department's Loyalty-Security Program.
