Howard A. Loeb served as chairman of the board of the Tradesmens Bank and Trust Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and as representative of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia on the Federal Advisory Council. This collection consists of Loeb's correspondence and printed matter related to these positions.

Also, includes letters from Ēlias Lephousēs to Thomas Kofodimos and to Joan Kofodimos, family photographs, and miscellaneous photographs of ELAS (Greek People's Liberation Army) leaders, materials related to Kofodimos' escape from Greece to the United States, information about his career after coming to the United States, various memoirs and personal history, death notices and obituaries of Kofodimos' published both in the United States and in Greece.

Consists of black-and-white photographs of Thomas Kofodimos, his parents and their house in Almyros (Volos, Greece); an elementary school photograph; early photographs of Thomas in Indianapolis and after moving back to Almyros; pre-war photographs with his fellow students at the Polytechnic School in Thessalonikē; at BP plant in Thessalonikē during civil war while trying to get out of Greece. Thomas Jefferson Wertenbaker was an American historian who taught at Princeton from 1910 to 1947. He was internationally recognized and wrote a number of important historical works. In 1947, he was president of the American Historical Association. His papers consist of Wertenbaker's works, correspondence, photographs, miscellaneous material, and printed matter.

This group of snapshots primarily consists of photographs of Ralph B. Yardley '1940 and Yardley Beers *1941 at Princeton commencement ceremonies from 1937 to 1941. The collection consists of twenty-four audiocassette recorded interviews conducted by Thomas Colchie (Princeton University alumnus, Class of 1964) of or about Brazilian writer Jorge Amado. Recordings include interviews with Jorge Amado and other writers and artists speaking about Amado. Also includes photocopy documents about Amado's political involvement as an elected representative in Brazil's National Constituent Assembly from 1945-1947, and photocopy documents of Brazil's National Intelligence Service (SNI) file on Amado.

In 1945, Jorge was elected to the National Constituent Assembly as a representative of the Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro, PCB). As a representative, Amado introduced a law guaranteeing freedom of religious faith. In 1947, the Communist Party was declared illegal in Brazil, and its members were persecuted and imprisoned, which led Amado to go into exile to Europe from 1947-1954.

Thomas Burnside Morris graduated from New York University in 1861 with a degree in civil engineering. He was a chief engineer of the Long Island Railroad, 1863; a division chief of the Panama Railroad, 1864-1865; a division chief of the Union Pacific Railroad, 1867-1869; and a division chief of the Northern Pacific Railroad, 1870-1874. He died in Oakland, California, on November 8, 1885. The collection consists primarily of material relating to Morris's role in the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad and the Northern Pacific Railroad.

The Thomas Baird Papers consists of the working and personal papers, primarily manuscripts, of the American educator and author Thomas Baird (1923-1990). Also included, and related to both his published and unpublished works, are idea files, notes, writing journals, correspondence with his publishers and editors, and reviews. Furthermore, the collection contains the following materials that encompass Baird's adult life: talks, addresses, and lectures; general, family and travel correspondence; diaries; personal journals; interviews; documents; photographs and audio recordings.

This sub-series consists of the correspondence Baird received from his family members Alice Baird [mother], Edgar Baird [father] and Sarah Lee Baird [sister] (1947-1948). There are also letters from Alice to Agnes Eckley, Baird's nursemaid and family friend (1941-1942), and letters from Baird to Agnes (1938-1984). These letters document Baird's time at Princeton, his military service and beyond. Lastly, there are a few letters between Baird and Thomas Eckley (1987-1988), son of Agnes and Baird's namesake. Upon the death of his mother, Thomas Eckley returned to Baird both Baird and Alice's letters to Agnes. This sub-series is arranged alphabetically by correspondent.

Stephen F. Cohen was a historian who wrote extensively on modern Russian history. The Stephen F. Cohen Papers consist primarily of research materials related to Cohen's book projects, along with other correspondence, writings, and materials related to speaking events.

Many of the writings discuss United States government spending and taxes, especially income tax, at the local, state, and national level. Other subjects include government economic relief programs during the 1930s, financing the defense program in the 1940s, and government deficit spending.

The Officers' Files subseries contains the files of thirteen ACLU staff members. Most served as higher level administrators or in the Legal Department. Their files consist of correspondence, committee materials, subject files on civil rights issues, case files, and materials on the logistics of administering their departments or the ACLU as a whole. The majority are the files of Ira Glasser, ACLU's fifth executive director.

This sub-series consists of assorted manuscripts and copies by Cowper, of both poetry collections and single poems. This sub-series is organized alphabetically by title.

This series consists of correspondence amongst Cowper's circle of family, friends, editors, and others, as well as a few assorted manuscripts. While the majority of the letters are original, there are also some copies. The primary correspondents include Sir John Carr, William Hayley, Lady Hesketh, John Johnson, John Newton, and Samuel Teedon. This series is first organized alphabetically by correspondent, then alphabetically by recipient, and finally chronologically by date. Unidentified manuscripts are located at the end of the series.

The Organizational Miscellaneous subseries (4.2 linear feet) contains various materials concerning structural and functional matters of the ACLU. Arranged chronologically by year and alphabetically within each year, this subseries is divided into four headings: miscellaneous, deaths, financial, and requests for information. The material under miscellaneous includes guides, memoranda, organizational and office materials, statements, articles, book proposals, project proposals, requests for speakers, speeches, and material concerned with ACLU social events. The deaths heading contains ACLU resolutions on the deaths of prominent civil libertarians, including Arthur Garfield Hays. Under the financial heading the researcher will find accountant reports and information concerning funds, grants, budget, and investments. Requests for information contains correspondence requesting information regarding the ACLU or other civil liberty issues. These requests come from members, newspapers and other publications, and lawyers. Included in these files are the ACLU responses.

The Attacks and Commendations subseries (3.78 linear feet) documents attacks leveled against the ACLU by the press, various institutions, and individuals, as well as commendations of the ACLU, with the majority of the material dating to the early 1950s. The material is arranged in two sections: Attacks, arranged alphabetically by attacker, and Commendations, arranged chronologically. The attacks material consists of newspaper clippings, statements detailing the attacks themselves, correspondence between ACLU members, and correspondence between the ACLU and their attackers. The material also contains detailed documentation of the ACLU's response to each attack. Occasionally there are descriptions of the reaction to those responses, on the part of both the public and the attackers themselves.

Like other Taos Blue Lake collections at Princeton, the Rufus G. Poole Papers chronicle a portion of the fight by New Mexico's Taos Indians to regain land taken from them in the 1906 creation of the Carson National Forest.Rufus G. Poole (1902 - 1968), a New York attorney who had settled in New Mexico for health reasons, was a regional attorney for tie Association on American Indian Affairs when the Pueblo retained him as a special liaison to Senator Clinton P. Anderson (1895-1975') in 1966. Anderson, a powerful New Mexico Senator, was opposed to congressional legislation which would return large amounts of land to the Pueblo directly; his opposition was enough to keep Blue Lake restoration legislation bottled up in Senate committees. Poole was hired to mollify Anderson's strident opposition. Not until President Richard Nixon issued an endorsement of the Blue Lake restoration bill in 1970, however, was the Pueblo able to see its long fight come to a successful end.The Rufus G. Poole Papers include copies of Poole's correspondence regarding the Blue Lake case and his role as special attorney to the Pueblo. Also included are copies of materials relating to Poole's role as a founding member of the National Committee for the Restoration of the Blue Lake Lands. Poole and other Pueblo supporters founded the National Committee in 1967, following a break with the Association on American Indian Affairs, included in the collection are copies of correspondence exchanged between Poole and William C. Schaab (1927--), tie Albuquerque attorney who replaced Poole as special attorney (at Poole's suggestion). Documentation regarding tie history of the Blue Lake case, contained in Box 3, was prepared by Schaab.

The Syllabi and Course Materials Collection brings together original materials from the university archives that document the content of classes taught at Princeton University.

These course materials were removed from the Lecture Notes Collection (AC052), as they are not notes taken by students. Some material in this grouping may never have been in the Lecture Notes Collection but was stored together with material that was. Some are professors' notes for lectures, some are problem sets or laboratory instructions kept by students.

Series 2: Syllabi Removed from the Princetoniana Collection, 1826-1947 (bulk 1850-1920) consists of printed syllabi and lecture notes that at some point were classified as part of the library's Princetoniana collection under call numbers starting with P435. Almost all of the items were printed specifically for use by students in classes at Princeton, and are based on lectures given by Princeton professors. They cover a broad range of subjects, including subjects no longer taught at Princeton, such as Law.

It includes materials on presidential elections from 1948 to 1964 and on election and campaign reform including statements and testimony by members of the ACLU and also questionnaires of candidate's views on civil liberties issues; information on municipal and state ordinances as well as a book of cancelled bail bonds from 1927-1931, showing the grassroots legal efforts of the ACLU to defend the rights of those associated with unpopular organizations; yearly compilations of "Descriptive Summaries of ACLU Case Actions Taken in Defense of Civil Liberties" (1946-1953); "Reference Books" compiled by the staff of the ACLU (1921-1946) containing memoranda of law and summary reports related to various civil liberties issues; information on films and television programs about civil liberties, such as "Inherit the Wind" and a television program on Sacco and Vanzetti; and manuscripts relating to civil liberties topics written by staffers of the ACLU and also by those outside the organization and submitted to the ACLU for approval or editorial comment. There are also a few files containing correspondence from the 1940s and 1950s which was at that time considered "confidential" and a "Survey of Communist-Oriented Organizations and Publications" compiled at the request of Roger Baldwin in 1946.

The International Civil Liberties subseries (19 linear feet) contains press releases, correspondence with officials like General Douglas MacArthur, and reports on censorship, labor laws and U.S. policy. Much of this material attests to Roger Baldwin's personal interest in international civil liberties during this period.

The Personal Subject Files subseries consists of documents related to Baker's charitable work, Princeton alumni activities, and other non-professional matters. Included are personal documents such as Baker's birth certificate and Baker's military and scholastic records, as well as documents and notes relating to Baker's travels to China (to visit George Bush), Africa, and the western United States.

The Post-Secretary of State series documents Baker's activities following the end of the Bush administration and is divided into two subseries: The Baker Institute for Public Policy and Subject Files.
