Series 1: Alan W. Richards Photographs of Princeton University Athletics, 1946-1970 consists of photographic negatives and a very few photographic prints of images captured by Alan W. Richards of Princeton University athletes and sports events. Approximately 3/4 of the images are related to Princeton University football. These include shots of individual players, coaches, and staff, as well as action shots of games and activities at Blairstown training camp. The Princeton University varsity, junior varsity, freshman and 150 lb. football teams are represented. The remaining 1/4 of the images are related to 16 different Princeton University sports: baseball, crew, cricket, cycling, fencing, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, squash, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball and wrestling.

Samuel Shellabarger attended Princeton University as member of the Princeton Class of 1909 and was an English professor between 1914-1923. The collection contains Samuel Shellabarger's manuscripts for two biographies and five works of historical fiction, as well as a small amount of miscellaneous material related to his writings.

Consists of manuscripts of Calvin Tomkins (Princeton Class of 1947) for his first novel, Intermission (1951).

Brothers Gerard "Gerry" Thomas (born 1930) and William R. "Bill" Thomas, Jr. (born 1927) both belonged to the Class of 1951. William R. Thomas had delayed his undergraduate education for Army service. They roomed together, and their letters are written to their father William R. Thomas, mother Virginia Postles and younger brother Jim in Washington, D.C.

Includes admission letters for both William and Gerard Thomas, a recommendation letter from the U.S. Army and letter of introduction to the engineering school from Dean Kenneth Condit. Also includes some correspondence home to their parents from Gerard Thomas.

Robert Vossler Keeley ('51) was a U.S. Foreign Service member and writer who served in a number of posts. The Robert V. Keeley Papers consist of reports, correspondence, writings, journals, and photographs from the breadth of Keeley's career, including his Foreign Service postings in Uganda, Cambodia, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, and Greece, as well as correspondence and other materials created and kept by Robert Keeley's wife, Louise Keeley.

Gordon Alexander Craig was an American historian specializing in German and diplomatic history who taught at Princeton and Stanford. The Gordon Alexander Craig Papers document several projects the historian was involved with while a professor at Princeton including the Marine Corps History Project for which Craig served as chairman of the editorial board, and the Princeton response to the loyalty oath controversy at the University of California in 1950-1951.

Allen Macy Dulles, son of Clover Todd and Allen Welsh Dulles, was a student of history and politics with plans for a career in public service until he sustained a serious injury in the Korean War. The collection consists of correspondence between family members prior to and following Allen Macy Dulles' injury as a Marine lieutenant in the Korean War.

Series 1: November 2008 Accession, 1947-1978 documents Princeton's varsity 150-pound crew team as competitors and victors of the 1948 Royal Henley Regatta. The papers contain a scrapbook, photographs, correspondence, telegrams, press releases and other materials. Topics documented include fundraising efforts, trip expenses, the journey abroad, crew team members, and the Princeton University community's response to the victory.

Robert H. Dicke, born in 1916, was a Princeton physicist, educator, and author. The collection includes Dicke's professional correspondence, files from his work with the Office of Naval Research, NASA, and the National Science Board, and the National Science Foundation, and assorted other documents.

The material in this collection pertains not only to an individual, Richard Schechner, but also to TDR, The Drama Review, a scholarly journal concerned with the broad range of performance in society and in the arts. Schechner, a renowned scholar, director, writer, and educator, edited The Drama Review from 1962-1969 and again from 1986 to the present date. Particularly in the 1960s, and again in the 1990s, both Schechner and TDR challenged traditional, prevailing ideas about theater-what it is, how it should be presented, and the ritual and ideals behind it. Schechner argued for thinking of "performance" as an all-encompassing genre with "theater" as one of its sub-categories. He is widely recognized as the founder of "performance studies" as an academic discipline. In the process of working out what performance studies is, Schechner and his colleagues at New York University created new ideas and new ways of thinking that still affect today's world of performance, theater, dance, and the social sciences. As "the journal of performance studies," TDR did much to shape the new discipline.

Although relatively small, the series, arranged alphabetically, contains items from Schechner's school years, including his scrapbook from his tenure at Cornell University's newspaper, The Daily Sun. Of special interest is a draft of The Engleburt Stories (written in collaboration with his son Sam), as well as a radio play Schechner performed and directed while still in high school.

Includes notes, outlines, subject entries, student work, and printed materials related to Kunitz's long career as a teacher of poetry at various colleges and universities in the United States.

This series documents Crespi's career after joining the USIA in 1954. This series includes USIA reports and related correspondence, notes, and clippings on surveys of foreign and domestic public opinion on a wide range of subjects, including the U.S. economy, trends in political thought, the future of American foreign policy, NATO, U.S. exhibitions on other countries, moral equivalence, phased retirement, and the effectiveness of USIA's own programs and surveys. Surveyed regions include Western and Eastern Europe, the Mideast, Asia, Latin America, and North America. Also included are departmental files of the USIA Office of Research (including service awards and performance evaluations of Crespi), WAPOR newsletters and correspondence, personal correspondence, photographs, biographical sketches of Crespi, drafts of published articles, and notes and related correspondence for various presentations and lectures he conducted over the course of his career. Material in this series that pre-dates 1954 primarily consists of USIA material that Crespi utilized in his research, as well as one report co-authored by Crespi for the office of the U.S. High Commissioner for Germany.

Series 1: Football Scrapbooks, 1924-1969 consists of bound scrapbooks assembled by George R. Beach documenting Princeton's football team. The scrapbooks contain game programs as well as articles from the Princeton Alumni Weekly and other local papers.

Series 6, Photographs, 1946-1968, is arranged chronologically and consists primarily of black and white photographs which depict Trimble in the course of his duties at activities such as presenting his credentials in Cambodia, dedicating a building in Germany, and accepting Salk's vaccine in Brazil. Some of the photographs have been at least partially identified by Mrs. Trimble.

Charles Trueman Lanham was a life soldier who retired as a general and was also friends with Hemingway. The papers consist of Xerox copies of correspondence between Lanham and Hemingway, a chronology of his time in World War II, correspondence about Hemingway, and a draft of Carlos Baker's biography of Hemingway.

Jack Iams (Samuel Harvey Iams, Jr.), Class of 1932, was a noted mystery writer in the first part of the twentieth century. The collection includes notes, drafts, outlines, and typescripts for seven of Iams's mysteries, as well as several assorted items, such a book jacket proofs and page proofs.

The collection consists of twenty-four audiocassette recorded interviews conducted by Thomas Colchie (Princeton University alumnus, Class of 1964) of or about Brazilian writer Jorge Amado. Recordings include interviews with Jorge Amado and other writers and artists speaking about Amado. Also includes photocopy documents about Amado's political involvement as an elected representative in Brazil's National Constituent Assembly from 1945-1947, and photocopy documents of Brazil's National Intelligence Service (SNI) file on Amado.

In 1945, Jorge was elected to the National Constituent Assembly as a representative of the Brazilian Communist Party (Partido Comunista Brasileiro, PCB). As a representative, Amado introduced a law guaranteeing freedom of religious faith. In 1947, the Communist Party was declared illegal in Brazil, and its members were persecuted and imprisoned, which led Amado to go into exile to Europe from 1947-1954.

This collection consists of letters to Arturo Lagorio, Argentine poet and author, by various Latin American and Spanish writers, including Samuel Eichelbaum, Maria Granata, Nicolas Olivari, and Cesar Tiempo.
