H. Freeman Matthews, Jr., son of H. Freeman Matthews, was a career Foreign Service officer, serving with the State Department from 1952 to 1991. The collection consists of materials documenting Matthews, Jr.'s service with the State Department, in particular, his time as Deputy Chief of Mission in Cairo from 1976 to 1980.

Dean Mathey (d. 1972), Class of 1912, was a member of the Board of Trustees and an ardent supporter of the University. The collection documents Mathey's familial relationships, service to Princeton, tennis career and other activities from his undergraduate days to the end of his life.

Robert Massie (1956- ) has led a varied life as an Episcopalian priest, university lecturer, social and environmental activist, historian, and executive. His work has focused on advocating higher standards of corporate responsibility and social justice in the conduct of capitalism. Massie's papers document his research on South Africa and anti-apartheid movements and include reports, articles, interview notes, and surveys.

John R. Martin was a professor of Art History at Princeton University for 40 years, joining the faculty as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in 1947. Consists of Martin's correspondence and his handwritten lecture notes from courses taught as well as his lecture appointments at other institutions.

Consists of scrapbooks of tearsheets and clippings, original artwork in pencil and in pen and ink, correspondence, financial documents, periodicals, permission agreements, and contracts spanning Henry Martin's career as a cartoonist and illustrator.

Anne Martindell was one of the first three women to serve in the New Jersey State Senate. After her four-year term ended in 1977, she served as director of the Office for Foreign Disaster Assistance, and was ambassador to New Zealand and Western Samoa for a two-year term. The papers document her career in politics and civil service, and also contain her unpublished memoirs and personal papers.

David Kellogg Lewis (1941-2001) was an American philosopher who taught at Princeton University and the University of California, Los Angeles and contributed to metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science, decision theory, epistemology, meta-ethics, and aesthetics. Lewis's papers include over four decades of his correspondence with other philosophers and scholars, including David M. Armstrong, J. J. C. Smart, Frank Jackson, D. H. Mellor, M. J. Cresswell, Allen Hazen, John Bigelow, and others, as well as drafts of his articles, books, reviews, and unpublished writings with related correspondence, his undergraduate and graduate student papers and class notes, research materials from his time at the Hudson Institute, photographs of Lewis with friends and fellow philosophers, a group of files kept by the Australian philosopher David M. Armstrong regarding Lewis, papers of Stephanie R. Lewis, and family papers.

Samuel W. Lewis (1930-2014) was an American diplomat who is best known for his 1977-1985 service as U.S. Ambassador to Israel and active presence during the 1978 Camp David Summit. The Samuel W. Lewis Papers consist of speeches, correspondence, journals, oral history transcripts, and scrapbooks documenting Lewis's long career in the U.S. foreign service.

This collection contains the musical manuscripts, musical sketches, correspondence, teaching materials, business files, and other personal papers of American composer Frank Lewin (1925-2008), who resided in Princeton from 1951 until his death. Audio and video recordings on optical media and a hard drive include music, films, and interviews; digital materials also include photographs, documents, production information, scores, parts, copyright forms, and contracts.

The Ivy L. Lee Papers consist of personal papers and material from the public relations firm of Ivy Lee and Associates, documenting Ivy Lee's public relations theories and practice. Corliss Lamont was a humanist philosopher and socialist who served as a director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) from 1932 to 1954. The Corliss Lamont Papers document the breadth of Lamont's career as a humanist, civil libertarian, and philanthropist.

Henry R. Labouisse (1904-1987) was a distinguished American diplomat and international public servant. He served as director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from 1954 to 1958 and as executive director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) from 1965 to 1979. He also served as a United States government official working on the formation and implementation of foreign economic policies during World War II and the 1960s. Labouisse's papers document his career with the United Nations and with the State Department and include correspondence, speeches and publications, as well as biographical and genealogical material.

Daniel C. Kurtzer (1949-) is a professor and former American diplomat. The collection mostly pertains to Kurtzer's work for the U.S. Foreign Service.

The Stanley Kunitz Papers consists of the literary and personal papers of Stanley Kunitz (1905-2006). A prominent American poet, Kunitz was also a known editor, translator, essayist, and educator. Kunitz's diverse interests are evident in the collection, which includes manuscripts of his writings, extensive correspondence, special-interest files, teaching materials, travel files, documents, photographs, memorabilia, artwork, calendars, annotated books, audiocassettes, papers of others, and printed material.

Dolores Koch is a noted translator and reviewer of Latin American literature. The materials in this collection were accumulated during her work with Reinaldo Arenas, a Cuban writer living in New York City. Koch translated two of Arenas's books and worked as part of a team handling publication and rights for his work after his death in 1990.

Abigail Klionsky is a member of the Princeton University undergraduate Class of 2014 who undertook an oral history project on Jewish student life at Princeton as part of her senior thesis. The collection consists of fifteen transcripts of Klionsky's interviews with Jewish alumni and also includes a copy of a transcript of Henry Morgenthau III's interview with David Frisch in 1979.

Karl Klare is a legal theorist prominent in the field of Critical Legal Studies (CLS). The Karl Klare Papers document Klare's work in the CLS movement. The papers include correspondence and planning materials for CLS conferences, publications and readings assembled for CLS conferences, as well as class readings and syllabi.

Lyman B. Kirkpatrick, Jr. served with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from its inception in 1947 until 1965. The papers document Kirkpatrick's career at the CIA, including his role as inspector general during the Bay of Pigs invasion, as well as his service in the U.S. Army and Office of Strategic Services during World War II, and his time as a professor of political science at Brown University.

The collection represents the entire extant archive of Sir Frank Kermode, a distinguished British literary critic, and includes writings (reviews, essays, lectures, radio broadcasts), correspondence, photographs, and printed material, as well as material relating to public controversy about the funding for Encounter, which Kermode co-edited.

George F. Kennan (1904-2005) was a diplomat and a historian, noted especially for his influence on United States policy towards the Soviet Union during the Cold War and for his scholarly expertise in the areas of Russian history and foreign policy. Kennan's papers document his career as a scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study and his time in the Foreign Service, and include his correspondence files, published and unpublished writings, and personal files.

Peter B. Kenen is a well-known economist, prolific writer, and Walker Professor of Economics and International Finance, Emeritus, at Princeton University. These records document Kenen's research and teaching work.

Robert Vossler Keeley ('51) was a U.S. Foreign Service member and writer who served in a number of posts. The Robert V. Keeley Papers consist of reports, correspondence, writings, journals, and photographs from the breadth of Keeley's career, including his Foreign Service postings in Uganda, Cambodia, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, and Greece, as well as correspondence and other materials created and kept by Robert Keeley's wife, Louise Keeley.

Edmund Keeley (1928-) is an author, translator, and Charles Barnwell Straut Professor Emeritus of English at Princeton University, best known for his translations and writings on Greek poets C. P. Cavafy, George Seferis, Odysseus Elytēs and Giannēs Ritsos. The papers consist of Keeley's drafts and proofs of translations, fiction, and nonfiction, including novels, articles, essays, introductions, reviews, and other writings, as well as for works he edited, along with personal and professional correspondence, faculty material, files of the P.E.N. American Center and other institutions with which he was involved, awards and speeches, biographical materials, family papers, scrapbook and other printed materials, manuscripts of others, and photographs and photograph albums.

Dick Kazmaier was a Princeton University student and football player from 1948 to 1952. The Dick Kazmaier Papers include Kazmaier's course materials (class notes, exams, and thesis research material), as well as football team photographs, award certificates, and a scapbook of newspaper clipplings from 1949 to 1953.

Jerome Karabel is an American sociologist known for his research on university admissions policies. Consists of materials compiled by Jerome Karabel while researching for his 2005 book The Chosen: The Hidden History of Admission and Exclusion at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. The papers contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents.

William Jovanovich (1920-2001) was an American publisher, author, and businessman, who led the publishing firm Harcourt Brace Jovanovich from 1954 to 1991, as president and later as chief executive officer. The collection consists of Jovanovich's author and publisher files, including an extensive file on Charles A. Lindbergh, along with correspondence, writings, personal and family papers, memorabilia, and other files documenting his career as a major American publisher in the 20th century, his creative pursuits in fiction and nonfiction, and his interest in Yugoslav literature and textbook publishing.

William Horne and Ernest Hemingway were lifelong friends. Horne met Hemingway while a volunteer ambulance driver for the American Red Cross during World War I. They were stationed in Schio, Italy, and drove together on the same ambulance. After Hemingway's failed engagement to Agnes von Kurowsky, they shared an apartment in Chicago during the fall of 1920. When Hemingway married Hadley Richardson in September 1921, Horne was in the wedding party. When the writer died in 1961, Horne was an honorary pallbearer. Richard C. Holbrooke was an American diplomat who led negotiations at the Dayton Accords for peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995. The Richard C. Holbrooke Papers contain Holbrooke's subject files, records of public statements, correspondence, writings and drafts of writings, articles and periodicals, and audiovisual materials.

The Papers of James F. Hoge, journalist, editor and foreign affairs expert, chronicle his contributions to foreign affairs issues while he was the editor of Foreign Affairs magazine from 1992-2010 and the Peter G. Peterson Chair at the Council on Foreign Relations. Hoge's intellectual contributions to foreign affairs discussions are in the form of speeches, articles, commentaries, book reviews, correspondence and interviews with contemporary experts or participants in the foreign affairs issues of the time.

Consists of correspondence in French between Léon-François Hoffmann and Haitian poet René Depestre, including handwritten letters, faxes, and several other documents. Other additions include photocopies of correspondence between Haitian writer and politician Jacques Roumain and his wife Nicole Hibbert.

Albert O. Hirschman (1915- ) was a leading scholar in the field of economic development whose work focused on Latin America but encompassed the globe. He was a professor at Yale, Columbia, Harvard, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. Hirschman's papers document his scholarship on economic development and his academic career and include his correspondence written while he was at the Institute for Advanced Study, his writings, and his research notes and materials, especially related to his work in Latin America and for the World Bank.

Contains the letters of Reinaldo Arenas and other Latin American authors to the French translator Liliane Hasson. Also includes copies of manuscripts by Arenas and others, photographs, and audio recordings of interviews with Latin American writers.

This collection consists of correspondence of the New York City literary agency Harold Ober Associates, Inc. and its three London affiliates. Established by Harold Ober (1881-1959) in the 1920s, the agency quickly grew in size and reputation, and has been considered one of the leading representatives for American and British writers in the world. The correspondence includes letters between the agency or affiliates and clients, editors, publishers, and other agents. Also included are other organizational files, such as date books and financial ledgers.

Douglas Kent Hall was an American writer and photographer active from the 1960s until 2008. This collection contains manuscripts, negatives, contact sheets, prints, transparencies, notes, research files, written reviews of Hall's work, and correspondence relating to a number of published and unpublished writings and photography projects spanning Hall's entire career.

Guibert is best known for Seven Voices Seven Latin American Writers Talk to Rita Guibert, published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1973. The collection includes audiocassette tapes containing Guibert's in-depth interviews with Pablo Neruda, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, Octavio Paz, Julio Cortázar, Miguel Ángel Asturias, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Manuel Puig, Carlos Fuentes, José Donoso, and others. Other materials include correspondence with authors, photographs, and drafts of articles Guibert wrote for magazines including LIFE en Español, Nuestro, The Paris Review, and Revista Iberoamerica.

Peter Grose is an editor and specialist on the history of intelligence. The Peter Grose Papers document Grose's research on Allen Dulles, the origins and early years of the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Soviet Union.

Gillett Good Griffin, a curator of Pre-Columbian collections at the Princeton University Art Museum from 1967 to 2005, spurred dynamic growth in the museum's collections of art of the ancient Americas. The Gillett G. Griffin Papers reflect Griffin's personal life and relationships as well as his professional work and his donation of objects to the Princeton University Art Museum.

Consists of correspondence, comprising eighty-one letters, between poet and translator James Greene and other writers and artists, including Ted Hughes and Antony Gormley. The letters range in date from 1956 to 2006.

George Adams Graham, faculty member in the Department of Politics at Princeton University from 1935 to 1958, specialized in the field of public administration. He was also active in public life, serving on the Citizens Federal Committee on Education; the Committee on Indian Affairs (a subcommittee of the Hoover Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of Government); the Committee on Public Administration of the Social Science Research Council; and the second Hoover Commission's Task Force on Personnel and Civil Service. His papers consist of reports, notes, correspondence, and subject files from his service in these capacities.

Wright, Carlos Fuentes, Julio Cortázar, Rosario Ferré, and José Donoso. Also in the collection are typescripts, audio recordings, photographs, and printed materials particularly relating to González Echevarría's work on Sarduy.

Some records include those associated with the Left Book Club's operations and Joyce Carol Oates' publications, among others.

Neil Goldstein (b. 1950) and Jerry Feldman (b. 1947) were filmmakers who made a documentary regarding Morris "Moe" Berg (1902-1972), a professional baseball player who also served in the Office of Strategic Service (OSS) during World War II. This collection, dating from 1921 to 1995, consists of Neil Goldstein's working files, including production files for the film and audio and video segments and masters of the documentary; and research on Moe Berg, including hours of oral histories and photocopies of Moe Berg's documents, particularly those created during World War II.

The Robert F. Goheen Papers contain records that Robert F. Goheen kept mainly before and after he was president of Princeton University (1957-1972). They include files Goheen kept as a graduate student, instructor and professor in Princeton University's Department of Classics for the period 1939-1957. The collection also contains U.S. army records for 1942-1945, when Goheen had interrupted his studies for service in the Second World War, and for 1945-1956, when he served in the Officers Reserve Corps. The majority of the files concern Goheen's post-presidential years, when he was Chair of the Council on Foundations (1972-1977), Ambassador to India (1977-1980), and Director of the Mellon Fellowships in the Humanities (1981-1998), as well as Senior Fellow Public and International Affairs at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School. Barton Gellman is a well-known journalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. The records in this collection document Gellman's work as a journalist and political advisor.

These pamphlets were collected by the Princeton University Library starting from the outbreak of World War I. The collection contains pamphlets published in Europe during and immediately after World War I. They cover a broad range of topics including the economy, the press, the military, arms, territorial disputes, and others. The collection also includes speeches, sermons, bulletins, calendars, and songbooks.

The Freedom House Records document the organization's activities in advocating freedom and democracy throughout the world. The records provide an invaluable insight into an organization that evolved from an answer to Hitler's Braunhaus to a diligent monitor of freedom worldwide.

Joseph Frank (1918-2013) was an American literary scholar best known for his five-volume biography of Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky, which he began in the early 1970s and completed in 2002. The collection consists of his personal and professional correspondence, including with Elizabeth Bishop, Yves Bonnefoy, Pierre Bourdieu, Ralph Ellison, Carlos Fuentes, Irving Howe, James Laughlin, Richard W. B. Lewis, Mary McCarthy, Allen Tate, and other writers, artists, and academics, as well as some family correspondence, writings, personal documents, and printed materials.

The collection includes correspondence to and from Mexican poet and Nobel Prize Laureate Octavio Paz (1914-1998) and French translator and friend Monique Fong Wust. Other correspondents include Robert Lebel, Marie-Jo Paz, and Juan García de Oteyza. Also included are original English typescripts of Paz's essay, "The Centurions of Santiago" with corrections and additions from Paz and Fong Wust, an annotated and corrected printed copy of Paz's Apariencia desnuda.
