Subseries 2A, Chairmen's Correspondence, 1922-1988, is arranged alphabetically by each chairman's last name and alphabetically by subject within. It contains the correspondence of R. S. Dugan, Lyman Spitzer, Jr., and John Q. Stewart. The correspondence deals with a wide range of subjects including appointments, committees, funding, personnel, and cooperation with national science foundations.
