Don Oberdorfer (1931-2015) worked as a journalist for nearly four decades; twenty-five of those years were as a staff member at the Washington Post, where he served as White House correspondent (1968-1972), Northeast Asia correspondent (1972-1975), and diplomatic correspondent (1976-1993). The collection is mostly composed of Oberdorfer's notebooks that chronicle his assignments with the Post, as well as his work post-retirement. The collection also consists of transcripts of interviews conducted by Oberdorfer with both American and Soviet foreign policy officials for his book The Turn: From the Cold War to a New Era, The United States and the Soviet Union, 1983-1990 (Poseidon Press, 1991, and Touchstone Press, 1992). Additionally, the papers contain a significant amount of research material and writings related to Oberdorfer's career, foreign policy actions taken by the United States and the Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War, and the political climate of Japan and Korea from the late 1960s into the early twenty-first century.

Some of the most prevalent topics in Oberdorfer's other writings are the political climates in Asia (particularly North and South Korea and Japan); U.S. foreign relations under the Ronald Reagan administration, especially during the tenure of Secretary of State Shultz; and Senator Mike Mansfield (1903-2001), the subject of Oberdorfer's 2003 biography. To a lesser extent, there are materials pertaining to Oberdorfer's affiliations with Princeton University and profiles on foreign political leaders. Of particular note are the typescript drafts of Oberdorfer's unpublished autobiography "Beyond the First Taxi Zone: Adventures of a Cold War Correspondent," which include excerpts from his notebooks. Other files throughout the series also contain excerpts from the notebooks and/or appear to have been created as part of Oberdorfer's research for his autobiography.

The Robert Garrett Papers consists of correspondence and documents primarily concerning the Robert Garrett Collection and other collecting interests of Garrett, Princeton Class of 1897.

Consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and ephemera by and relating to John Steinbeck collected by Preston Beyer, cofounder of the John Steinbeck Society of America. Included is a large amount of correspondence (circa 1939-1993) of Beyer with bibliographers, critics, collectors, biographers, universities, friends, and relatives concerned with the life and works of John Steinbeck.

Consists of papers and photographs of Alison Frantz (1903-1995), a classicist who was the photographer and specialist in Early Christian and Byzantine archaeology for the Agora excavations at Athens from 1933 to 1968 for the American School of Classical Studies.

David F. Bradford (1939-2005) was a professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University and served on the faculty from 1966 to 2005. His main areas of study were public finance and urban problems, and he was internationally known as an expert on taxation. Bradford's papers document his academic career and include correspondence files and conference files, as well as papers related to his research with Harry H. Kelejian, his appointment books, and biographical materials from his years as a student.

Consists of approximately 110 letters by Louis O. Coxe (Princeton Class of 1940) to his former classmate, fellow poet, and friend William Meredith, primarily during the 1940s and 1970s.

Contains seven bound volumes of transcripts of Floyd H. Black's papers, including an unpublished autobiography, diaries, and correspondence.

Consists of papers of journalist Levering Cartwright (Princeton University Class of 1926) relating to the association of "Death Valley Scotty" (Walter Scott, 1872-1954), an eccentric prospector, Wild West show entertainer, and hoaxer, with his friend and financier, Albert M. Johnson, an insurance company executive.

The Reginald Lawrence Papers consists primarily of typescripts of plays Lawrence (Princeton Class of 1921) wrote for theater, film, and television, as well as short stories, poetry, outlines and notes for various projects, some letters, photographs, and newspaper clippings.

Two notebooks, containing Fuentes's personal ratings and descriptions of movies he had seen.

Consists of selected material by and about the American poet Edgar Lee Masters, collected by Gertrude Claytor, a friend and fellow poet.

Consists of four small groups of correspondence between Wesley Halliburton and others after the death of his famous son Richard in 1939. Richard Halliburton was a celebrated adventurer and author known, among other things, for having swum the length of the Panama Canal.

This series consists of postcards and various pamphlets, membership cards, and other printed items.

Consists of letters to Gilbert Troxell from Sinclair Lewis, John O'Hara, and Carlotta Monterey O'Neill, the wife of Eugene O'Neill, discussing the donation of manuscripts to the Sterling Memorial Library at Yale University.

W. Willard (Bill) Wirtz was a lawyer, an arbitrator, a law professor, and served as undersecretary and secretary of labor under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. He was a speechwriter for, and close advisor to, Adlai Stevenson from 1952 to 1960. The W. Willard Wirtz Collection on Adlai Stevenson documents Stevenson's campaigns for president in 1952 and 1956, as well as Stevenson's political activities in 1960 and in between campaigns. Because Wirtz was a speechwriter in 1952, in charge of speech content in 1956, and a close advisor and occasional speechwriter at other times, this collection most strongly documents the campaign activities of drafting speeches and fine-tuning campaign policy.

Series 1: 1938-1952 and General includes a memorandum on the content of the collection, a folder of speeches, and materials related to Adlai Stevenson's 1952 Presidential campaign.

Helmut Meyer was a German-born American citizen who fought for the United States in World War II and founded the Helmut Meyer Literary Agency in New York City. The collection contains files from the Helmut Meyer Literary Agency, propaganda from both the Allies and the Axis from World War II, manuscripts of Meyer's own work, and correspondence from friends and clients.

The Calvin S. Hathaway Collection consists of correspondence (especially with Florence C. Quinby), photographs, postcards, offprints, slides, and newspaper clippings of American Curator Calvin S. Hathaway (Princeton Class of 1930) relating to his collection on equestrian statues of the world.

Consists of correspondence, photographs, and printed matter concerning the Baron and Baroness Hyde de Neuville.

The Clive Bell Correspondence collection consists of letters received by the English writer and art critic Clive Bell (1881-1964) from Raymond Mortimer, Harold Nicolson, and V. (Victoria) Sackville-West ["Vita"]. Their content reflects both personal and professional matters.

The Alice Raphael Collection of Faust Materials contains photographs and epherema relating to the Yale bicentennial of Goethe's Faust , for which Alice Raphael's translation was used, as well as information about other productions of Faust and about Raphael's other work.

The Radio Broadcasting Collection consists of typescripts of scripts for "The Cavalcade of America" and "The Bookman" as well as promotional material for the major radio networks, such as ABC, CBS, NBC, the Mutual Broadcasting System, and the Municipal Broadcasting System (WNYC). Included is material regarding the coverage of news during the latter years of World War II and copies of clippings about the Orson Welles broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" in 1938.

Stephen F. Cohen was a historian who wrote extensively on modern Russian history. The Stephen F. Cohen Papers consist primarily of research materials related to Cohen's book projects, along with other correspondence, writings, and materials related to speaking events.

The Office of the Vice President for Campus Life is an administrative office at Princeton University responsible for enriching the student experience for the University's undergraduate and graduate students. The Office of the Vice President for Campus Life Records contain internal emails, reports, minutes, spreadsheets, and other office files that document the activities of the office from its inception in the early 21st century and through its first decade and a half of existence.

Consists of notebooks and notes taken by George R. Collins during his years as an undergraduate and graduate student at Princeton (Classes of 1939, 1942) in the fields of art and architecture.

This subseries consists of condolence letters from friends and acquaintances following the sudden death of VB due to a heart attack as a result of his rescue of four unidentified passengers from a capsized sailboat in Long Island Sound on July 25, 1937.

This series consists of oversize drawings by Reginald Birch (1856-1943), the British-born American artist and illustrator who illustrated several of FHB's books, and James Montgomery Flagg (1877-1960), the American artist and illustrator.

Consists of photocopies of a Tewa-speaking tribe's documents from the archive of the governor of San Juan Pueblo, New Mexico, including leases, operating accounts, financial statements, contracts, and notices. There are also three open-reel audiotapes containing recordings of songs from the Hopi, San Juan, and Zuni peoples.

D. Hugh Peniston graduated from Princeton University in 1941. This collection includes his course notes and coursework along with his letters home during his undergraduate years.

Consists of correspondence in French between Léon-François Hoffmann and Haitian poet René Depestre, including handwritten letters, faxes, and several other documents. Other additions include photocopies of correspondence between Haitian writer and politician Jacques Roumain and his wife Nicole Hibbert.

Jerome Karabel is an American sociologist known for his research on university admissions policies. Consists of materials compiled by Jerome Karabel while researching for his 2005 book The Chosen: The Hidden History of Admission and Exclusion at Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. The papers contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other documents.

Brewster Ghiselin was an English professor, literary critic, editor, and poet. The collection contains some of Ghiselin's works and correspondence. Typescripts, proofs, galleys, Italian translations, phonograph records, a few books, and notes represent his works, while the correspondence consists of letters from his literary friends and colleagues.

Consists of J. D. Salinger: A Writing Life as well as printed matter related to Ursinus College and Valley Forge Military Academy.

Consists of papers of British poet and literary critic Ian Hamilton that were used in preparation of his biography J. D. Salinger: A Writing Life, which was never published as a result of judicial decisions in the case of J. D. Salinger vs. Random House and Ian Hamilton (1987).

Anton Tedesko was a German-born structural engineer who pioneered the development of thin-shell concrete roofs. Consists of four small groups of papers of Anton Tedesko.

This includes a quantity of copy letters from Franz Weiss to Tedesko; Affidavits signed by Tedesko supporting the temporary (wartime) stay of Margaret and Mary Weiss in the US, details including his income; typewritten list of stocks and shares, inc. maturity; a Christmas newsletter (1961) from Sally and Anton Tedesko.

This collection consists of personal and professional papers of Adamantia Pollis, professor of political science on the Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science of the New School for Social Research in New York. Included are drafts of various articles, papers of her students, personal memorabilia and papers, grant proposals, and correspondence.

Consists of correspondence and miscellaneous material relating to the Welsh translator, novelist, and storywriter Arthur Machen (1863-1947) that was collected by the American businessman and author William Francis Gekle.

A. Frederick Gerstell is a member of the Princeton University Class of 1960. The collection is composed of mostly World War II-era correspondence, photographs, and ephemera collected by Gerstell.

The James Stewart Collection contains seventeen screenplays of films in which starred American actor, Jimmy Stewart (Princeton Class of 1932).

E. Kimbark MacColl has written extensively on the history and politics of Portland, Oregon. Consists of notes, outlines, correspondence, and chapter drafts for MacColl's Ph.D. thesis, "The Supreme Court and Public Opinion: A Study of the Court Fight of 1937" (1953).

A program for a Class of 1901 35th Reunion Memorial Service, as well as a booklet with photographs of busts.

Consists primarily of manuscripts of Stephen French Whitman (Princeton Class of 1901), as well as correspondence and documents concerning their publication and the career of the author.

The Geographical Playbills Collection consists chiefly of playbills from the United States, but Great Britain, Canada, Bermuda, France, Germany, and Japan are also represented. Although this is a collection of playbills, there are also some letters, documents, printed matter, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous material.

Consists of Kofodimos' personal documents that were collected in order to escape from Greece to the United States with Nancy/Athena in 1947 (Nancy referred to as "Nana", that was her nickname). Thomas Kofodimos did not participate in the Civil War.

Consists of documentation that Thomas Kofodimos pulled together, when he was trying to find a United States publisher for his English translation of Lephousēs' book Asēmina Laiou. Also, includes letters from Ēlias Lephousēs to Thomas Kofodimos and to Joan Kofodimos, family photographs, and miscellaneous photographs of ELAS (Greek People's Liberation Army) leaders, materials related to Kofodimos' escape from Greece to the United States, information about his career after coming to the United States, various memoirs and personal history, death notices and obituaries of Kofodimos' published both in the United States and in Greece.

Consists of writings, editorial files, correspondence, teaching materials, and other professional working files of Irish poet John Ennis (1944- ), including drafts of his published poetry and unpublished work from the late 1960s through 2016, editorial files related to anthologies of Irish and Canadian poetry he edited between 2002 and 2009, and materials documenting the activities of the Irish arts organization Poetry Ireland and its journal Poetry Ireland Review from its inception in 1978 through the 1990s.

Includes a significant amount of research on the Elliott sisters, Eilis Elliott O'Brien and Emily Elliott Ledwith.

Series 1: Antioch Excavation Financial Records, 1935-1938 consists of detailed expense vouchers from the second half of the excavation of Antioch. Each voucher lists a single expense, its cost, and its purpose. Also included as expenses are purchases of antiquities found during the excavation.

The Correspondence series is composed of letters between Rovensky and other bankers and economists. Most of the correspondence discusses the economic policies that Rovensky's associations touted.

John E. Rovensky (1880-1970) was a banker and economist. As a banker, he held the position of vice president at the National Bank of Commerce, Bank of America, and City Bank. As an economist, he was a member of the Economists' National Committee on Monetary Policy, the National Monetary Association, and the Stable Money Association. Rovensky's papers document his work as an economist, including his tenure as president of the Stable Money Association in 1927. The papers are comprised of correspondence, offprints, and newspaper clippings.

Princeton University's Vice President for Public Affairs has administrative oversight, under the President, of the presentation of the objectives and activities of the University to all its various publics, and serves as spokesperson for the University when needed. The records of the Vice President for Public Affairs consist of subject files assembled on topics relevant to the office's activities, as well as chronological files containing correspondence and interoffice memoranda.

Clinton Wilder (Princeton Class of 1943) was an American theatrical producer. His collection consists of playbills he collected as well as typescripts and production materials of plays he produced.

American Charles William White wrote historical novels about artists and writers under the pen name of "Max White." Active as a historical fiction writer primarily in the 1930s through 1950s, White traveled in the same social circles as Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. The collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence of Charles William White ("Max White"), including correspondence with Alice B. Toklas and Gertrude Stein.

This series contains manuscript materials for several of White's works of fiction and drama, including various manuscripts, copies, and drafts of his novels, short stories, and plays, occasionally in several versions.

Series 1: H. Hubert Wilson Collection on the Department of Politics, 1924-1977 (bulk 1967-1977) consists primarily of published sources on topics of interest to Wilson, including the administration, finances and governance of Princeton University, the activities of the Priorities Committee, government ties and sponsored research at Princeton, ROTC, and campus politics. It also contains materials originating in Wilson's teaching at Princeton, including student papers and theses, as well as drafts of a publication titled "This Isn't Princeton".

H. Hubert Wilson was a professor in Princeton University's Department of Politics from 1943-1977. The collection consists primarily of published sources on topics of interest to Wilson, as well as materials originating in Wilson's teaching at Princeton, and drafts of a publication titled "This Isn't Princeton".

The Correspondence series primarily documents Bowman's childhood and young adulthood, from his stay as a boy at a sanitarium in Kansas City for diabetes treatment through his years at Stanford and Princeton. Correspondence between Bowman and his mother, Mary Augusta Brooks Bowman, is particularly rich in part because they wrote each other almost daily and in great detail. Bowman's letters to his mother from Stanford and Princeton, in particular, are lively and quick-witted and reveal his myriad social activities, impressions of college life, and opinions on subjects of all sorts, from family matters to politics to popular films and actors. Correspondence with his father, sister, and brother can be equally revealing but does not match the sheer volume of correspondence between mother and son. Letters from Bowman's friends are also worth noting for their vivid evocations of private school and college life in the 1920s and 1930s. Bowman corresponded with several young women, including a cousin, Edith Brooks, who was traveling in the car with Bowman at the time he was killed. The young women's letters, in particular, contain a vivaciousness and convey their own and Bowman's very active social lives. Bowman also maintained a correspondence over many years with a member of the crew he met on a Cunard Lines voyage he took as a boy with his family. The crew member sent Bowman many letters and postcards from his voyages around the world.

Brooks Bowman '36 is best remembered as the composer of the songs "East of the Sun (and West of the Moon)" and "Love and a Dime." The Brooks Bowman Papers consist of correspondence and photographs that document his school years and his foray into the music industry. The bulk of the papers consist of Bowman's correspondence with his mother, sister, and numerous friends.

Consists of playbills, programs, and some other printed material relating to the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Consists of research material of American educator and historian Harold Ruland relating to his study of Sebastian Munster (1489-1552) and the history of cosmography and early cartography.

Consists of printed matter, primarily reviews of Zelda's works.

Consists largely of a scrapbook and album of color slides, as well as materials from Lane Montgomery pertaining to Zelda Fitzgerald, some correspondence, and a jacket.

The Topical Files series is predominantly composed of copies of articles and books written about the Dulles Family, especially Dulles's brother John Foster, as well as related correspondence seeking her approval for publication. The series also includes reports related to Dulles's work with the State Department, especially concerning her work in Berlin, Hungary, and Eastern Europe.

Eleanor L. Dulles (1895-1996) was an economic specialist for the U.S. State Department from 1942 to 1962. She was most prominently known for her work in rebuilding West Berlin from 1952 to 1960. Dulles's papers document her political writings after her retirement from the State Department in 1962, as well as her fundraising work with the John Foster Dulles Memorial Fund, and include drafts of her articles and books, topical files, and some correspondence.

Consists of correspondence, a typed manuscript, and printed material related to Willa Cather, one of the most respected American women novelists of the early twentieth century.

The New York Urban League was founded circa 1913. Its stated goals were to "promote sympathetic understanding between white and colored people" and to improve the economic status of African-Americans through health, housing, and recreation programs as well as an effort to increase the number and the quality of jobs for minorities. The League's motto: "Not alms, but opportunity." This collection is comprised mainly of the correspondence of Arthur C. Holden, president of the N.Y. Urban League from 1922-1931, and a member of the executive board until 1943. It contains general files of the organization's correspondence predominantly spanning the years 1922-1933, with a few items from the years 1968-1979.

This collection contains excerpts from the diaries of Osmond K. Fraenkel, a New York City lawyer who served on the ACLU's Board of Directors and as one of its general counsel. These excerpts discuss the cases in which Fraenkel was involved.

Series 2: General, 1917-1950 contains biographical information, photographs, scrapbooks, and documents other than correspondence.

Kenneth Sherman Clark was a member of the Princeton Class of 1905 and an active participant in Triangle Club during his time at Princeton. Consists of the personal papers and sheet music of Kenneth Sherman Clark spanning his time at Princeton as well as his later career.

Eugene O'Neill, the celebrated American playwright, was a director of the Provincetown Players and a founder of the Theatre Guild. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Strange Interlude (1928) and, posthumously, for Long Day's Journey Into Night (1956). The collection consists of fifteen manuscripts of O'Neill, most of which are first drafts of plays and include preliminary notes.

This microfilm consists primarily of pamphlets published by non-governmental organizations and government agencies from various Latin American countries in relation to women and gender issues. The bulk of the material was published during the 1980s and 1990s.

This series consists of fourteen contracts regarding English and foreign language versions of Lady Chatterley's Lover (1931-1959). Some of the contracts include copies of related correspondence. This series is organized chronologically by date, with an undated contract located at the beginning.

Included are Earl Jones in the Langston Hughes play Don't You Want to be Free?, Vincent Price in Angel Street, Pearl Bailey in St. Louis Woman, and Ethel Waters in Mamba's Daughters.

Consists of files of American antiquarian book dealer J. Howard Woolmer's correspondence with various poets and writers and author photographs.

The Post-Secretary of State series documents Baker's activities following the end of the Bush administration and is divided into two subseries: The Baker Institute for Public Policy and Subject Files.

The subject files subseries consists of material related to a variety of subjects in Baker's life after government. The subseries includes brief correspondence from George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, John Major, and Nancy Reagan, as well as a folder devoted to Rice University which contains information about Baker's grandfather's role in the development of the University.

This microfilm covers primarily the 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2001 elections in Peru. It contains election propaganda and literature from participating political parties, political analysis, and official government publications.
