The Treasury Department series contains memoranda and correspondence, articles, speeches, and meeting notes. The majority of the material is authored by White, often for Henry Morgenthau Jr., and also includes papers written by Morgenthau and by White for the President of the United States. Please see the subseries descriptions in the contents list for additional information about individual subseries.

The Research and Writings series is composed of articles and notes, and statistics. The articles and notes section contains notes, data, and portions of articles, the majority regarding the analyses of international trade. The statistics section contains tables and index cards of data on currency and deposits, foreign trade, international price movements, and the economies of Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

This series contains correspondence, publications, news clippings, and writings, mostly pertaining to White's involvement in the Bretton Woods Conference and the subsequent creation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), part of the modern World Bank. Also present are reports and papers authored by White that predate his participation at Bretton Woods, including a copy of his master's thesis. Of particular note are White's notes prepared for his appearance before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Many of the documents in this series postdate White's death, such as correspondence to White's daughter and sister and a biography of White written by his brother.

This series contains correspondence between Harry Dexter White and Anne Terry White, his wife; correspondence from Harry Dexter White to his daughter Joan White; a photograph album of the family's time in California in the 1920s; about 100 pages from a scrapbook on Harry Dexter White compiled by Anne Terry White; as well as some later correspondence of Joan White Pinkham and Ruth White Levitan regarding their father.

Series I, Biographical Material and Copyright Certificates, contains general biographical material including copies of sketches Hall submitted to Princeton publications, newspaper articles and his own lists of military activities in both wars. Includes Hall's motoring permits, licenses, passes and passports, and legal copyright certificates for his books.

Series III, Correspondence (1912-1963) includes routine, social, personal and business information, both incoming and outgoing. Additional correspondence may be found in Series IV, which pertains to his tenure in Persia, and in Series VII, Subject Files. Business correspondence concerns publication of Hall's articles and books and from his literary agent. Some materials are in French, a few in Farsi. Correspondence is both manuscript and typescript.

Series V, Writings--Published (1912-1959) includes articles and book reviews, as well as drafts of his books. Draft chapters often contain material which was not included in the published volumes. This series also contains intelligence reports and briefs completed during World War I and World War II.

Series VI, Writings--Unpublished (1912-1962), contains articles and reviews submitted for publication in one revision or another. Materials include drafts, speeches, papers, reviews, and reminiscences. Two drafts of Hall's publication on the 12th century pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, Spain are also in this series.

Series VII, Subject Files, often complements his diary entries. This series includes clippings, articles, and background notes which Hall compiled while researching both his professional postings and his writings.

Series X, Josephine Johnson Hall (1918-1974), contains journals, correspondence of Josephine Wells Johnson, a native of Racine, Wisconsin who served as a World War I field nurse. Her correspondence describes battlefield conditions and nursing activities, as well as contacts with family and friends after her marriage. Her daybook, kept during their five years in Persia, includes observations on social life and customs, and on domestic problems.

Series XI, Photographs and Negatives, includes drawings and sketches completed by Hall as well as photographs and negatives. Photographs include scenes from his earliest hunting trips, world travels, aircraft, aerial reconnaissance, his Persia work, and also includes illustrations from his publications. Negatives include more images than the printed photographs.

Series 6, Photos and Memorabilia, circa 1941-1984 contains a small number of photos, with the bulk from the 1970s. This also includes the photos used in Tangled Web. It also contains a large framed copy of the covers of the first and last edition of Foreign Affairs that Bundy edited.

Series 1 documents John Doar's work within the Civil Rights Division and the Division's activities and organizational structure from its inception in 1957 through 1967, though most materials date from the 1960s. The majority of the series is made up of operating files from the investigation and litigation of civil rights violations in specific areas, such as voting and elections, education, public accommodations and public facilities, employment, violent crimes, and others. A large portion of the collection also relates to the administration of the Division, including records on matters such as the Division's budget, personnel, and internal management. To a lesser extent, the series contains files on other agencies with civil rights responsibilities in the federal government, as well as files on non-governmental activist organizations. "Special files" in the series provide insight into other areas of interest to the Division not explicitly included in the operating files, while materials related to proposed or approved legislation indicate the Division's priorities and its responses to new mandates. A number of government publications and scholarly articles collected by Doar are also present.

Series 3 contains John Doar's records from his time on the New York City Board of Education, including occasional Board materials that predate his tenure. Most of these earlier materials were interspersed with Doar's working files, though a small number of the subject files of Bernard Donovan, who served as superintendent of schools from 1965-1969, were maintained separately.

Series 5 documents Doar's legal career in private practice and his continued interest in civil rights matters from the 1960s. The majority of the series is composed of court documents pertaining to the investigation Doar led in the 1980s into the bribery charges laid against United States District Judge Alcee Hastings. A few other cases are also documented, though to a much lesser extent.

The Biographical series contains biographical sketches, clippings, awards, correspondence between Kemmerer and family members, especially his son Donald Kemmerer, and photographs. The series also includes a guestbook listing the visitors to the Kemmerer home from 1920 to 1941 and a small amount of material related to Princeton University and Scranton-Keystone Junior College.

The Country Files series documents Kemmerer's financial advisory work and also contains materials collected by Kemmerer as he conducted research on particular countries. The series contains material from twenty-six countries, mostly in Latin America. The best documented are China, Colombia, and Peru, and to a lesser extent Chile, Ecuador, the Philippines, and Poland. The papers include correspondence, reports, clippings, and government publications regarding a wide variety of subjects, including banks and banking systems, currency and monetary policy, government budgets and debt, taxes, trade laws, and information regarding the economic and social conditions of the countries. The papers also include correspondence, reports, clippings, and other materials of the commissions of financial advisors lead by Kemmerer.

Series 6 is largely composed of materials related to Kemmerer's work as a financial advisor leading international financial commissions. The materials include bound copies of reports submitted to the governments with the commissions' recommendations and photograph albums and scrapbooks of clippings that document the time spent by the commissions in the countries, as well as a small number of books. Supplemantary materials that were kept in rolls may be found in Series 7.

The Biographical Materials series contains newspaper articles about Derso and Kelen and other biographical ephemera like business cards, press passes, and advertisements for their syndicated cartoons and writings. Exhibition catalogs are included in this series. Of particular note is an essay written by Betty Kelen, Kelen's wife, providing a brief, but personal and humorous view of Derso and Kelen's friendship and artistic careers.
