This series contains materials from George McGovern's Senate and presidential campaigns. Documents included in this series cover McGovern's first bid for the Senate in 1960, his subsequent campaigns in 1962, 1968, and 1974, and his final, unsuccessful reelection campaign in 1980. The series also documents McGovern's 1968 candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination and his 1972 presidential campaign. In addition, the series includes files on McGovern's political alliances and activities during the 1966 House elections and the 1964 and 1976 presidential elections. Types of materials in this series include files on campaign organization, financial files, promotion and advertising files, issue and policy files, and campaign correspondence.

This series documents George McGovern's activities as the director of the Food for Peace Program (1961-1962) and United States Senator (1962-1980). Of special interest are files documenting McGovern's activities as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Indian Affairs of the Senate Committe on Interior and Insular Affairs (1967-1972) and as Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs (1969-1970, 1973-1977) and its successor, the Subcommittee on Nutrition of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry (1978-1980). In addition, the series contains documentation pertaining to McGovern's activities as chairman of the Subcommittee on Agricultural Credit and Rural Electrification (1971-1976) and the Subcommittees on South Asian Affairs (1973-1974) and Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs (1975-1977). The series includes legislation and policy files, statements, schedules and invitations, travel files, patronage files, and constituent correspondence.

The Photographs series contains photographs documenting George McGovern's early life as well as his national political career. It comprises private family photos and publicity photos, including head shots, family photos, and candid shots in both private and public settings. The series includes files from 1979-1980 documenting photo-ops and other publicity arrangements. The photographic materials in this series include prints, negatives, and contact sheets.

This series contains items that are peripheral to George McGovern's political activities, material belonging to family members, and secondary material. Items of note include unfiled (and some unopened) correspondence of Eleanor McGovern's and a term paper of McGovern's daughter Susan.

The Administrative Files series contains records pertaining to the business operations of Development and Resources Corporation (D). The majority of the series is composed of the files of several officers of D, including John G. Burnett, Gerald M. Levin, David E. Lilienthal, John Oliver, and Jonathan L. Swift. The officer files contain correspondence, memoranda, and reports about managing D and its projects, including negotiating the language of contracts, finances and personnel, project progress updates to the country governments, and materials documenting the perception of D in the media. Lilienthal's files are largely composed of his memoranda on the purpose of D, as well as monthly status reports on the company's finances and performance and discussions of future D leadership. The series also includes records of several D offices, predominantly in Bangkok and Saigon. The records include financial reports, information on current and potential projects in the region, reports on conditions in their country, and correspondence on the coordination of project staff, the arrival of D officers, and writing reports to the country governments. Additionally, the series includes correspondence, policy and financial records, and topical files about several countries and similar projects conducted by other organizations.

The Project Files series is composed of records related to D's development projects, which include water management and irrigation studies, the construction of dams, the development of river basins, agricultural development, and general economic development. The projects were located throughout the world, largely in Latin America, Africa, and the United States, as well as a few projects in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe. D's work in Colombia and Vietnam are best documented. The records include correspondence, proposals and reports, collected materials about the countries, contracts, data and maps, and publicity materials.

The Khuzestan Development Project (Iran) series contains the records pertaining to D's development work in the Khuzestan Region of Iran from 1956 to 1979, as well as a small number of projects that extended into the rest of the country. The records predominately document D's construction of the Dez Dam and related work with irrigation and agriculture, and also include correspondence files and other records pertaining to the management of the region's development. These records document Medina's writings about law, religion, politics and literature. This series includes introductions to others' books, book reviews, and the texts of articles, speeches and memorials authored by Medina. Information about when and where Judge Medina gave these speeches can be found in the correspondence series.

These scrapbooks include press clippings, texts of speeches, correspondence, awards, and miscellaneous records of Judge Medina's life and career.
