The Maurice Kelley subseries contains the records of Maurice Kelley, who served as acting University Librarian from 1952-1953. The records consist primarily of routine administrative correspondence which documents Kelley's brief period of leadership during a time of transition between the tenures of Julian Parks Boyd and William S. Dix.
The William Shepard Dix subseries contains the University Librarian records of William S. Dix, who held the position from 1953-1975. The records consist primarily of correspondence, subject files, and printed materials. The topics the records pertain to are vast in their scope, and illustrate Dix's wide variety of interests as a librarian. Included in the records are files documenting the collections, policies, and services of the Library; as well as records relating to Dix's participation in professional library organizations and committees. By the time of William S. Dix's tenure, most of the major departments which constitute the Library were in place; however the correspondence and other documents contained in the subseries demonstrate Dix's intimate involvement in Library projects of all kinds.
