The Giōrgos Vakalo Papers consists primarily of papers by and relating to the Greek painter and stage designer George Vakalo (1902-1991). Included are autograph and typed manuscripts of Vakalo's notes, talks, articles, interviews, TV or radio productions, artwork, as well as his correspondence, notebooks, photographs, and printed matter, such as exhibition art catalogs, magazines, and clippings. Of particular importance are the hundreds pieces of his artwork in a variety of media (ink, pencil, watercolor, conté crayon, engravings) and on a variety of supports (paper, carton, and canvas).

The Helenē Vakalo Papers consists of papers by and relating to the Greek art critic and poet Helenē Vakalo (1921-2001). Included are autograph and typed manuscripts of Vakalo's poetry, lectures, articles, and essays, as well as her correspondence, notebooks, loose notes, and memorabilia. There are also official documents, photographs, awards, printed material, and several works by prominent Greek writers and artists. Of particular importance are the unpublished works and early manuscripts, as well as Vakalo's correspondence with her husband, painter, stage designer, art critic, and writer Giōrgos Vakalo, and with numerous distinguished artists and literary figures.

The Nanos Valaōritēs Papers consists of the writings, notebooks, sketchbooks, correspondence, and printed matter relating to Pali of the Greek poet, novelist, playwright, and editor, Nanos Valaōritēs. There are also wtitings of other people.

Consists of papers of "Jan Valtin," the literary pseudonym of Richard Julius Herman Krebs.

The collection illustrates the literary career of American author and professor Carl Van Doren, including typescripts and research notes for his Pulitzer Prize winning biography of Benjamin Franklin. The collection also contains various documents, including Van Doren's will, souvenirs, memorabilia, photographs, clippings, and printed material, as well as legal papers and correspondence dealing with his participation in several lawsuits involving copyright infringement.

The Henry Van Dyke Family Papers consists of papers of three generations of the prominent Van Dyke family of New York and Princeton, beginning with Henry Jackson Van Dyke (1822-1891) and his wife, Henrietta [Ashmead] Van Dyke (1820-1893), followed by their children, Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933) and Paul Van Dyke (1859-1933), and ending with Henry van Dyke's son Tertius Van Dyke (1886-1958).

George "Bob" Vaughn, Jr., Class of 1919, was a decorated World War I pilot and a pioneer in the aviation field. The collection consists of newspaper clippings, scrapbook pages, photographs, filmed interviews, an autobiographical manuscript and other materials that document the life and aeronautical career of George Vaughn.

The collection consists of manuscripts, writings, correspondence (both personal and professional), photographs, works of others, microfilm, printed material, and film reels, spanning more than 50 years, concerning Velikovsky's controversial ideas, the books that he wrote, and the history of opposition and criticism from the academic community that he received following the publication of his first book, Worlds in Collision, in 1950. Colleges and universities threatened to boycott the textbook division of the publisher, Macmillan & Co., which led to the transfer of the publishing rights to Doubleday & Co., even though the book had reached the number one spot on the best-sellers list. The book was eventually banned from a number of academic institutions, and several people lost their jobs because of it.

Consists of personal papers of Markos Veremēs, a Greek engineer. Included are photograph and postcard albums of Greece, the United States, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, Turkey, and Romania; lantern slides and glass-plate negatives of Alaska, correspondence (professional and personal), typed manuscripts, official documents, and printed matter.

Consists of the British publisher Victor Gollancz's author files on Miguel Ángel Asturias, Edith Sitwell, and Richard Wright.

Jacob Viner (1892-1970) is considered one of the greatest economists of the twentieth century. His career was spent at the University of Chicago and Princeton University, and he also frequently served as an advisor to the United States government. His primary academic interests included international economics, international economic relations, and the history of economic thought, but his investigations ranged across many disciplines. Viner's papers document his scholarship, as well as his government service, and include correspondence, manuscripts, reports, and research materials.

This collection consists of materials collected by Dr. James R. Vitelli, an English professor at Lafayette College, during his research on American literary critic Van Wyck Brooks and American book designer Elmer Adler.

Ira Owen Wade (Princeton Class of 1924) was a professor of French in Princeton's Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. His collection consists of typescript of his writings on Voltaire, professional correspondence, research notes, and some student work.

The collection contains edited typescripts and copies of Cuban writer Severo Sarduy's poems, essays, and translations, along with writings about Sarduy, interviews, notes, clippings, photographs, and other printed materials. Correspondence includes a group of postcards sent to Severo Sarduy and his partner François Wahl in the 1960s and 1970s from various European and Latin American writers and philosophers, including Roland Barthes, Alain Badiou, Reinaldo Arenas, Octavio Paz, and Jacques Lacan, and additional correspondence of French editor and structuralist François Wahl.

Alexander D. Wainwright (Princeton Class of 1939) was an avid bookman and collector. He had a lengthy career at the Princeton University Library, serving as assistant university librarian for collection development and as curator of the Morris L. Parrish Collection of Victorian Novelists. His collection consists of of manuscripts, correspondence, drawings, and related material by and about Thomas Wolfe, the American novelist, playwright, and storywriter.

This collection consists of correspondence, reports, articles, lectures, notes, and printed matter of American chemist, Everett Stanley Wallis, dating primarily from his tenure as Princeton professor of chemistry (1930-1965) and chairman of its biochemical sciences program, and as a research consultant for Merck & Co. of New Jersey and for other pharmaceutical companies.

Consists of a small archive of files from English publisher and author Fredric Warburg (of Secker & Warburg).

Galbraith Ward, Class of 1915, and Marquand Ward, Class of 1917, were both Princeton graduates who served and died in World War I. This collection consists of many letters and postcards they wrote to their childhood nurse, Margaret Heyerdahl, plus a photograph album compiled after their deaths.

Arthur Cyrus Warner (1918-2007) was a prominent figure in the gay liberation movement, focusing his efforts on legal reform to protect the civil liberties of the gay community. Warner's papers document his involvement in legal reform and other issues pertaining to gay rights. The papers largely consist of legislative and court documents about cases affecting gay civil liberties, and related memoranda, correspondence, and writings.

The Warner Bros. Screenplays consists of a large collection of scripts for films produced by the Warner Bros. studio.

Consists of the publishing and administrative records of Weidenfeld & Nicolson, a British publishing company founded by George Weidenfeld (1919-2016) and Nigel Nicolson (1917-2004), which specialized in literary fiction and nonfiction, with an emphasis on history, biographies and memoirs, books by world leaders and political figures, glossy illustrated books, travel guides, and reference books. The collection documents the operations of the firm from its establishment in 1948 through its sale in 1991, and also includes some later records from as recent as 2012 related to its continued operation as an imprint of the Orion Publishing Group.

Consists of professional and personal correspondence, travel diaries and related ephemera, notebooks, writings, and files relating to the Quarterly Review of Literature (QRL) of editor and writer Renée Karol Weiss (1923-2021). Some materials relate specifically to Renée's husband, poet and professor Theodore Weiss (1916-2003).

Consists primarily of the issue and correspondence files of the independent literary journal of the same name that was founded in 1943 by Warren Carrier, and co-edited and published from 1944-1999 by the husband and wife team of poet and former Princeton professor Theodore (Ted) and editor and author Renée Weiss. Also present in the collection are manuscripts of, and associated material from, eleven of Theodore Weiss's thirteen published books of poetry.

Kurt Weitzmann left his native Germany in 1935 for Princeton where he spent the remainder of his life, at the Institute for Advanced Study as a permanent member (1935-1972) and as a professor in Princeton University's Dept. of Art and Archaeology (1945-1972). Included are personal and professional correspondence, related files, course outlines, lectures, manuscripts and notes for various published works, scrapbooks of clippings, and printed matter.

Werner (pseudonym of Alexander Schifrin) was a Russian native who was exiled to Germany (1923-1933) and subsequently lived in France (1933-1939) and the United States (1940-1951). Consists of selected papers of Werner

Thomas J. Wertenbaker was a professor of history at Princeton from 1910 to 1936, serving as department chairman from 1928-1936.

Thomas Jefferson Wertenbaker was an American historian who taught at Princeton from 1910 to 1947. He was internationally recognized and wrote a number of important historical works. In 1947, he was president of the American Historical Association. His papers consist of Wertenbaker's works, correspondence, photographs, miscellaneous material, and printed matter.

American Charles William White wrote historical novels about artists and writers under the pen name of "Max White." Active as a historical fiction writer primarily in the 1930s through 1950s, White traveled in the same social circles as Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. The collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence of Charles William White ("Max White"), including correspondence with Alice B. Toklas and Gertrude Stein.

The Dorothy Shipley White Collection encompasses two sets of photographs, one on the life of Charles deGaulle and the other on French Africa. White presumably collected the photographs in preparation for her book, Black Africa and deGaulle (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1979). Mrs. White sent the photographs and negatives of the deGaulle photographs to Princeton in 1989.

Hans A. Widenmann (1897-1976) was a stockbroker and economist with expertise in national and international monetary affairs. His successful business career was largely spent at Loeb, Rhoades & Company, and he was also frequently called upon to speak about international finance subjects. Widenmann's papers document his career at Loeb, Rhoades & Company and include his correspondence and writings, topical files, and biographical files.

Consists of the papers of Hungarian-born, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Eugene Wigner, and includes correspondence, subject files, writings, and offprints reflecting his long career in physics.

Consists of papers of the American author and novelist Wendell Wilcox (1906-1981), including personal correspondence and photographs of his wife, Esther Willson Wilcox, their relatives, and other writers and friends.

Clinton Wilder (Princeton Class of 1943) was an American theatrical producer. His collection consists of playbills he collected as well as typescripts and production materials of plays he produced.

Consists of selected papers of Thornton Wilder, the celebrated American novelist and playwright, winner of three Pulitzer Prizes.

The papers of Whiting Willauer (1906-1962) reflect Willauer's entire career, but focus most strongly on the period from 1941 to 1954 when Willauer was in China and worked for China Defense Supplies, Inc. (1941-1944), the Foreign Economic Administration (1944-1945), the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration [NRRA] (1946-1947), and Civil Air Transport, Inc. (1946-1954). The papers also document his positions as an admiralty lawyer for the New York City law firm, Bingham, Dana and Gould (1931-1938), as Attorney, Criminal Division at the Department of Justice and Special Assistant to United States Attorney General (1929-1940), Special Counsel for the Federal Power Commission (1941), and his appointments as United States Ambassador to Honduras (1954-1958) and Costa Rica (1958-1961). In addition, materials which reflect Willauer's role as a delegate to the Organization of American States' Meetings of Foreign Ministers (August 1960) and to the United Nations General Assembly (October 1960) are found in the papers.

The collection contains photographic negatives and prints of Princeton University campus life, taken by J. Wayman Williams for the Bric-a-Brac yearbook and the Princeton Alumni Weekly during the years 1943-1944 and 1947-1950. The collection is still being processed and the negatives are not available to view in the reading room. The negatives are in a queue for digitization.

Consists of over thirty letters and cards from American literary critic Edmund Wilson (Princeton Class of 1916) to Margaret Rullman, a childhood friend.

H. Hubert Wilson was a professor in Princeton University's Department of Politics from 1943-1977. The collection consists primarily of published sources on topics of interest to Wilson, as well as materials originating in Wilson's teaching at Princeton, and drafts of a publication titled "This Isn't Princeton".

The papers of Princeton University professor Harper Hubert Wilson document his interest and work in civil liberties. A self described "conservative, anarchist and socialist," Wilson provoked his students to think critically about the social problems confronting society, and to challenge the prevailing assumptions about American politics.

Contains records concerning plays directed by Bretaigne Windust (Princeton Class of 1929), mainly for the University Players, of which he was a co-founder.

W. Willard (Bill) Wirtz was a lawyer, an arbitrator, a law professor, and served as undersecretary and secretary of labor under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. He was a speechwriter for, and close advisor to, Adlai Stevenson from 1952 to 1960. The W. Willard Wirtz Collection on Adlai Stevenson documents Stevenson's campaigns for president in 1952 and 1956, as well as Stevenson's political activities in 1960 and in between campaigns. Because Wirtz was a speechwriter in 1952, in charge of speech content in 1956, and a close advisor and occasional speechwriter at other times, this collection most strongly documents the campaign activities of drafting speeches and fine-tuning campaign policy.

Chalmers Benedict Wood joined the Foreign Service after serving in World War II and held positions in several embassies as well as working in the State Department. These papers include writings, correspondence, clippings, and State Department documents from his time as a Foreign Service Officer in Vietnam in 1967-1969.
