The Office of General Counsel, established in 1972, provides legal counsel to officers and departments of the University, and serves as legal representative for the University in litigation, administrative matters, and transactions. The records contain correspondence, memoranda, interview transcripts, administrative material relating to the Office of General Counsel and other departments, legal documents, grant and tax reports, legal briefs, affidavits, depositions, as well as litigation material involving estates, trusts, gifts, University employees, and various individuals and corporations.

The reports in this collection describe research in the field of sound propagation and acoustic signal detection. In the early years of the research, the project was knows as the Underwater Sound Transmission Project. The research was funded by the Office of Naval Research Contract N6onr-270, Task Order V.

The Collection consists of 11 technical reports describing research done by the Department of Electrical Engineering on high frequency techniques. The research was conducted between 1946 and 1949 and was funded by the Office of Naval Research.

The Office of Physical Planning was the division of Princeton University's Department of Facilities charged with oversight of the construction of new buildings on campus and alterations to existing structures. The records consist of office files and architectural drawings in a variety of formats.

The Office of Research and Project Administration acts as coordinator for all grants sought by the University, and also ensures the conformance of University practice with governmental regulations. The collection consists of annual reports, board minutes, policies, and interoffice correspondence of ORPA. Additionally, it contains files assembled for large-scale university research projects such as the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, as well as on research-related issues such as the use of human subjects and biosafety.

Established in 1920, the Office of the Controller is responsible for the preparation of the University's annual audited financial statements, as well as financial and tax reports to several government agencies including the Internal Revenue Service. Consists of records produced by the Office of the Controller that document University financial matters.

The religious interests of members of the University are served through the offices of the Dean of Religious Life and the Chapel, which work with chaplains of different denominations and faiths on a variety of activities. The Dean of the Chapel records document the activities of the Office and the Chapel and include former dean files, historical material, minutes, and marriage, birth, baptism, and death records as well as adminsitrative files and programs of services and concerts.

The Office of the Dean of the College is charged with overseeing undergraduate admission, curriculum, and academic development. The records document the work of the Dean of the College and the office staff, as well as faculty, students, alumni, and trustees whose work and interests have fallen under the domain of the Office of the Dean of the College. This record group contains annual reports, meeting minutes, departmental records, and correspondence.

The Dean of Undergraduate Students, formerly known as the Dean of Students and the Dean of Student Affairs, is the University's administrative office charged with oversight of undergraduate residential life, extracurricular activities, and student discipline. The Dean of Undergraduate Students records contain correspondence, memos, and meeting minutes, as well as the financial records of student organizations.

The Office of the President Records: Harold T. Shapiro contains the files generated and compiled by Princeton University's Office of the President during the administration of Harold Tafler Shapiro *64, the University's 18th president. The records consist of files pertaining to academic programs, campus building projects, fundraising, students, faculty, and staff and include correspondence, reports, speeches, and printed materials.

This collection contains records relating to Princeton University presidents from Jonathan Dickinson, who served in this capacity from 1746 to 1747, to Harold W. Dodds, whose tenure spanned the period from 1933 to 1957. It brings together both primary and secondary materials pertaining to individual presidents as well as the office of the president itself. The Princeton University Presidents' Records document the lives and accomplishments of each president with varying completeness, as well as the functions of their office.

The records of the Office of President Goheen contain the files of the President's Office during the administration of President Robert F. Goheen (1957-1972). The collection contains eighteen series, which consist of correspondence and memoranda, reports, speeches, publications, and related materials, which were created or received by Robert Goheen and other members of the President's office.

The collection contains the files compiled by the Office of the President during the presidency of William G. Bowen GS'58 (July 1972 to January 1988). The files consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, speeches, publications, and other assorted material. Series 18 includes the files of three assistants to the president, biographical and photographic material about Bowen, and a card index of the files. There is some overlap between the files in this collection and the files of presidents Goheen and Shapiro. Records found here are sometimes duplicated in the records of other administrative offices on campus.

Working in conjunction with the Office of Development, Princeton University's Office of the Recording Secretary receives and officially acknowledges gifts to Princeton on behalf of the president and the trustees of the University, and keeps donors informed as to the impact of their gifts. The files from the Office of the Recording Secretary consist of records of gifts donated to Princeton.

The Office of the Registrar is the administrative office of Princeton University responsible for the collection and maintenance of the academic records of the student body, as well as the establishment of course and examination schedules and the collection of fees related to matriculation and registration. The records contain the academic records of individual students, subject files on topics related to admissions and matriculation, statistical reports, and other official documents issued by the Office of the Registrar.

The Office of the Treasurer is Princeton University's administrative office charged with the coordination and execution of the receipt, disbursement, custody, and safeguarding of the financial assets and resources of the University. The Office of the Treasurer records document the custodianship of Princeton University's finances and contain correspondence, annual reports, budgets, audited statements, and other finance-related materials which are related to the University's assets, investments, cash flow, and spending practices.

This collection chronicles the administrative responsibilities and activities of the vice presidents and secretaries of the University. Included are correspondence, memoranda, and notes concerning committee activities. Also included are press releases, discussions pertaining to trustee matters, scholarship information, and biographical files on honorary degree recipients.

The Office of the Vice President for Campus Life is an administrative office at Princeton University responsible for enriching the student experience for the University's undergraduate and graduate students. The Office of the Vice President for Campus Life Records contain internal emails, reports, minutes, spreadsheets, and other office files that document the activities of the office from its inception in the early 21st century and through its first decade and a half of existence.

Princeton University's Vice President for Public Affairs has administrative oversight, under the President, of the presentation of the objectives and activities of the University to all its various publics, and serves as spokesperson for the University when needed. The records of the Vice President for Public Affairs consist of subject files assembled on topics relevant to the office's activities, as well as chronological files containing correspondence and interoffice memoranda.

This collection contains early scores and lyrics to Princeton University's alma mater "Old Nassau" as well as information about the song and the men who created it.

Osip Mandelʹshtam was a Russian poet, novelist, essayist and critic. A member of the Guild of Poets, a radical faction of the acmeist movement in poetry, he criticized the literary conformity demanded by Russia's new communist government. The collection consists of Russian-language works, correspondence, and printed matter of Mandelʹshtam. It contains holograph and typed manuscripts of his poems, reviews, articles, and essays, often in draft form representing different stages of his work, many of which are in the hand of his wife, Nadezhda, who acted as his amanuensis.

This collection contains excerpts from the diaries of Osmond K. Fraenkel, a New York City lawyer who served on the ACLU's Board of Directors and as one of its general counsel. These excerpts discuss the cases in which Fraenkel was involved.

The Papers of Woodrow Wilson Project, co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and Princeton University, was a successful project to publish material generated by and influencing Woodrow Wilson; the 35 year project resulted in an acclaimed 69 volume set. The records of the Papers of Woodrow Wilson Project, compiled by chief editor Arthur S. Link and his staff, document the life and times of the former Princeton University president, governor of New Jersey, and president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, as well as the project to bring together documentation by and about Wilson.

Consists of correspondence, documents, photographs, and miscellanea of Ernest Hemingway's middle son, Patrick (1928- ), and the Hemingway family.

Patrick J. Kelleher was the Director of the Princeton University Art Museum from 1962-1973. Consists of correspondence, publications, notes, press releases, schedules, and photographs collected by Patrick J. Kelleher over the course of his directorship of the Princeton University Art Museum.

Patrick Kelleher was director of the Princeton University Art Museum from 1960 to 1972. His papers consist of articles, notes, photographs, and printed matter from Kelleher about the Holy Crown of Hungary. There is a smaller selection of correspondence with artists and colleagues about the direction of the Art Museum.

The Paul Elmer More Papers reflect on More's life and career as an author, editor of The Nation (1909-1914), and lecturer at Princeton University (1918-1933) in philosophy and classics.

The Paul Frankl Papers consists of correspondence, writings, notebooks, photographs, and printed matter of the Czech art historian, architect, author, and educator Paul Frankl (1878-1962). A native of Prague, Frankl came to the United States in 1938, and shortly afterwards settled in Princeton, New Jersey, where he was associated with the Institute for Advanced Study.

Consists of diaries, notebooks, manuscripts, correspondence, and scrapbooks of American diplomat and novelist Paul Hyde Bonner.

Consists of the corrected typescript of a collection of essays by A. C. M. Azoy (Princeton Class of 1914) on 18th- and 19th-century United States military history, entitled Paul Revere's Horse (1949).

Paul R. Sweet (1907-2003) was a political intelligence officer for the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in the Research and Analysis (R and A) branch during World War II. He later worked for the U.S. State Department and was a history professor. This collection documents Sweet's professional life, especially his service in the OSS and his teaching career. The collection also contains family correspondence.

This collection contains interview transcripts, cassette tapes, and background material collected by Peggy Lamson for her authorized biography, Roger Baldwin, Founder of the American Civil Liberties Union: A Portrait. Much of the background material was provided, and in some cases annotated, by Baldwin and documents both his professional and personal life.

Consists of files created by P.E.N. American Center as part of its regular business operations since its founding in 1922. Includes material on governance and policies, programs, awards, and financial aid granted to authors, and the center's involvement with International P.E.N. and other P.E.N. organizations worldwide. The collection is especially notable for its extensive author correspondence and occasional original manuscripts, as well as audio and video recordings of P.E.N. programs and events.

Consists primarily of an unpublished manuscript, dating from 1917 to 1919, along with clippings and a few original photographs documenting the experiences of Percival William Petch (1886-1940), a British army officer who was stationed along the Macedonian Front during World War I.

The Performing Arts Serials Collection consists of serial printed material concerning the performing arts, including circus, dance, film, opera, radio, speech, television, theater, and vaudeville. For the most part, publications are represented by a sample or two issues.

Consists of material related to the collection of Emily Dickinson works compiled by Margaret Jane Pershing.

Consists of incoming letter from writers, scholars, and friends (circa 1958-2016), along with nine binders containing photocopied letters (1902-1957) of the Greek novelist Nikos Kazantzakis collected by Bien. There are also (9) photocopied Kazantzakis's own notebooks; Bien's notebooks (general and miscellaneous) containing clippings and other materials that relate to Kazantzakis's works and career; notebooks containing Bien's reading notes from secondary and primary materials or both; small notebooks with material he read. There are also typescripts; a copy of Kazantzakis's "Vios kai politeia tou Alexe Zorba" with marginal notes by Bien and three printed bibliographies: Katsimpale bibliography N. Kazantzakē A 1906-1948, Perantonakē bibliography N. Kazantzakē 1973-2002, and Mantatophoros #5 November 1974. There are also two small file boxes.

This collection consists of the papers of photography historian, professor, author, and curator Peter C. Bunnell, spanning his student and professional career from the 1950s to 2018. Materials include subject files, correspondence, photographs, publications and drafts of publications, among other items.

Peter Grose is an editor and specialist on the history of intelligence. The Peter Grose Papers document Grose's research on Allen Dulles, the origins and early years of the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Soviet Union.

Peter B. Kenen is a well-known economist, prolific writer, and Walker Professor of Economics and International Finance, Emeritus, at Princeton University. These records document Kenen's research and teaching work.

Consists of a collection of screenplays and television scripts spanning a period of sixty-four years of film and television production, collected by the writer Peter Orton.

Consists of 40 letters by various authors to Peter Schwed on the occasion of his retirement in 1982 as editor, publisher, and vice-president (1945-1982) of Simon and Schuster, Inc. Also present are brief comments on these letters by Schwed and a copy of his self-published Plum to Peter: Letters of P. G. Wodehouse to his Editor Peter Schwed (1996).

Peyton Houston (Princeton Class of 1932) worked with the New York investment company Equity Corporation for forty years, while pursuing a career in poetry and freelance writing on the side. His papers include some of his poetry notebooks and drafts and manuscripts of his published works. The collection also contains his correspondence with family and friends, writers and publishers, and photocopied correspondence with Peter Yates. Some drafts of Yates' work and some personal memorabilia of Houston's complete the collection.

The Princeton University Phi Beta Kappa Records consist of correspondence, reports, minutes, and other materials relating to the administration, membership, and finances of this organization.

Philip A. Crowl (1914-1991) was a military historian who taught at universities and conducted research for the United States government, and also served as an intelligence officer. Crowl's Collection on John Foster Dulles is composed of Crowl's research materials for an unwritten biography on Dulles, including photocopies of correspondence, oral histories, and other materials about Dulles's entire career, as well as his family and personal life.

Consists of personal papers and material related to the American West collected by Philip Ashton Rollins (1869-1950).

Consists mainly of printed matter collected by Strong (Princeton Class of 1922) relating to the field of strategic and scientific intelligence and espionage.

A writer of fiction and nonfiction, Philip Gordon Wylie (Princeton Class of 1924), authored hundreds of short stories, articles, serials, syndicated newspaper columns, novels, and works of social criticism. His collection consists of manuscripts and correspondence representing his life work, ranging from Dormitory Ditties, published during his college days (circa 1920), to The End of the Dream, a novel published posthumously in 1972.

Consists of photographs, manuscripts, diaries, and ephemera relating to Edward H. Phillips (1868-1944), his wife Marie Kempton Phillips (1881-1946), and their daughter Jean Sarah Phillips (1908–1985) that document ranch life in and around Montana around the turn of the 20th century as well as Ed Phillips' involvement in Wild West shows, including Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, and his career as a Hollywood actor.

The Philosophy Manuscripts of Walter Kaufmann consists of manuscripts, galleys, and page proofs of many of the writings and translations of the American philosopher, educator, and author Walter Kaufmann (1921-1980).

The records of the Physics Department document the scientific and teaching activities of Princeton University physicists from 1909 to 1962. While routine activities such as the hiring of faculty and the education of graduate and undergraduate students are recorded, these records also detail the Department's activities in early studies of theoretical physics, as well as its participation in World War II research activities. There is also a small amount of material that documents Milton White's efforts toward builing the cyclotron (1936).

Louise Dorothee (Dollie) Dyte Chareau (1880-1967) was the wife of the architect Pierre Chareau (1883-1950), who is best known for the Maison de Verre, which was built from 1927 to 1932 in Paris. This collection consists mainly of correspondence between Harold Rubinstein (1891-1975) and Dollie Chareau, and between Michael Rubenstein (1920-2001) and Pierre Chareau scholars, including Marc Vellay, Margaret Antalopoulos, and Margaret Tallet.

Designer and Typographer, P.J. Conkwright worked at the Princeton University Press from 1939 to 1970. His collection includes biographical material, correspondence, calendars, and other printed material about the Princeton University Press.

Consists of quarterly status reports and technical reports created by the Plastics Laboratory at Princeton University from 1946 to 1954. The Laboratory which was established in 1946 conducted basic research involving problems of a fundamental nature as well as towards the development of plastics and materials with specific properties.

Consists of miscellaneous papers related to the short-lived, twentieth-century British literary periodical Platform.

This collection consists of flyers, pamphlets, and serials concerning the political process and society in Argentina. The material in the elections sections is comprised primarily of propaganda from the 2001 legislative elections and 2003 presidential elections in Argentina.

This microfilm covers primarily the 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2001 elections in Peru. It contains election propaganda and literature from participating political parties, political analysis, and official government publications.

This collection contains approximately three hundred and fifty items directly related to the Partido Demócrata Cristiano de Chile.

Prentice Northup Dean (1897-1981) was a practicing economist for the United States Tariff Commission and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He also held teaching positions at Princeton University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Buena Vista University. Dean's papers document his service as United States delegate to the meetings of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and his years studying at the American University in Beirut, and include correspondence, diaries, documentation of conferences, memorabilia, and newspaper clippings. The papers also include the correspondence, diaries, and manuscripts of his family members May Dershimer née Walter and Martin R. Walter.

The President's Program was a fundraising drive initiated by Princeton President Harold W. Dodds in 1936. Targeting alumni, the program had an ultimate goal of raising over 7 million dollars, to be distributed across three major projects; the construction of a new library, the developement of the school of public and international affairs, and increased scholarship funds. Consists of regional files containing correspondence with program representatives throughout the nation.

Consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and ephemera by and relating to John Steinbeck collected by Preston Beyer, cofounder of the John Steinbeck Society of America. Included is a large amount of correspondence (circa 1939-1993) of Beyer with bibliographers, critics, collectors, biographers, universities, friends, and relatives concerned with the life and works of John Steinbeck.

Consists of the records (1760-1974) of a large business conglomerate in northern Mexico founded by Pedro R. Prieto and owned by branches of the Prieto family, including Maíz family members, for three generations.

The PAW is successor to the Alumni Princetonian, a weekly publication of the Daily Princetonian. In 1919 the Princeton Printing Company dissolved and printing of the PAW was taken over by the Princeton University Press. The PAW was a weekly magazine during the school year until changing to its current bi-weekly format in 1977. The magazine is now published during the academic year for alumni and professional staff of the University.

This collection comprises paintings, drawings, prints, cartoons, and other original artwork and reproductions representing the Princeton campus, its dezinens, sporting and other events, and symbols of the school.

The Princeton Crusader Fellowship is a Christian reform organization founded by a group of Princeton students on Commencement Day in 1912. The records consist of member lists, constitutions, speeches, articles, newsletters, and correspondence of the Princeton Crusader Fellowship.

Princeton University was a participant in the first intercollegiate football game in America in 1869. Since then, the University has maintained a varsity football team, competing each season against other colleges in the Ivy League Athletic Conference, including traditional rival Yale. The collection consists of film reels documenting Princeton varsity football games between 1935 and 1990, as well as video of the 2012 season.

Thomas J. Wertenbaker was a professor of history at Princeton from 1910 to 1936, serving as department chairman from 1928-1936.

Each volume or set of volumes in the Princetoniania Collection is represented in the Princeton University Library Main Catalog, which is searchable by title, author, or call number.

Princeton Inn was conceived of by a group of University alumni and trustees in 1914 who recognized the need for a hotel to comfortably house the families of students and other visitors in close proximity to campus. Consists of the minute books of the Princeton Inn and a sample form book.

The Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) is Princeton University's international and regional studies center. The PIIRS Records document the institute's activities and include material from its precursor organizations, the Yale Institute of International Studies and the Center of International Studies at Princeton University.

This collection contains various songbooks printed for Princeton University including bound volumes and small booklets. Among the former is a nearly complete series of the Carmina Princetonia. There is also a second series dedicated to sheet music comprising various songs written for Princeton University, including many pieces written by alumni.

The Princeton Nassoons are a close-harmony, all male, student a cappella group that formed in the late 1930s. The collection consists primarily of the Princeton Nassoons' original musical arrangements and correspondence.

Princeton University's Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program was started in 1946 amidst a wave of enthusiasm for the ROTC that followed World War II. The collection consists of publications, bulletins, course materials, and manuals pertaining to the Navy ROTC program at Princeton.

The Princeton Print Club was founded in late 1940 by a group of students seeking to advance the appreciation of graphic arts among the campus community. The records consist of financial accounts, correspondence, and pamphlets which document the activities and membership of the Princeton Print Club.

Founded in 1930 as a cooperative enterprise of the History, Politics, and Economics Departments of Princeton University at the undergraduate level, the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs has since grown into one of the nation's foremost centers for professional public policy education, offering degrees on both the undergraduate and graduate level and contributing original research in a wide variety of fields related to public and international affairs. The records document the school's founding and development and include correspondence, subject files, publications, and audiovisual materials.

The Princeton Scientific Expeditions Collection brings together original materials from the university archives that document the work of various scientific expeditions conducted under the aegis of Princeton University and its corporate predecessors. The connection with the university ranges from enterprises duly authorized in the trustees' minutes to expeditionary tasks that happen to have been carried out by members of the university faculty, often with little official notice of Princeton as an institution.

This collection contains presentation boards related to the design, construction, renovation and expansion of Princeton's grounds and buildings. In addition, the boards include those used for planning purposes, student housing strategies, insurance purposes and recording of features such as fallout shelters, and electrical feeders. The boards primarily include floorplans, artistic renderings, elevations and campus footprints.

The American Whig-Cliosophic Society (1941-present) is a literary, political and debating society which has had an important impact on the lives of generations of Princeton students. It provides students with both social alternatives and an opportunity to develop skills not emphasized by the University curriculum. The contents of the initial group of records were acquired between 1941 and 1993 in agreements between Princeton University and the American Whig-Cliosophic Society. The library initially cataloged some of these records into the P Collection. Subsequently, an attempt was made to organize some of these records in 1975.

Organized competitive athletics appeared on the Princeton campus in the 1850s and 1860s through the formation of intramural and intercollegiate athletics clubs which evolved over the ensuing century into the modern collegiate athletic system. The collection consists of scrapbooks and sets of clippings about sports and athletes at Princeton.

The Class Records consist of a diverse set of materials documenting the history and activities of Princeton University classes during their time as undergraduates and as alumni. In the collection are correspondence, newsletters, publications, photographs, and memorabilia, all of which pertain to a particular Princeton University graduating class and its members.

Mary Chavelita Dunne Bright (pseudonym George Egerton) was a writer and translator in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She was influential in the late-nineteenth century "New Woman" movement as well as the early modernist movement in English-language literature. The collection primarily consists of correspondence between Bright and various friends, family members, and literary and theatrical colleagues. The collection also contains a small number of manuscripts which include prose, poetry, and biographical notes.

Consists of correspondence, a typed manuscript, and printed material related to Willa Cather, one of the most respected American women novelists of the early twentieth century.

The Commencement Records contain programs, bulletins, announcements and newspaper clippings which document commencement activities from 1748 to the present. Files are arranged chronologically by year. In addition there are separate series consisting of bound programs, electrical broadcast transcriptions, bound commencement notices, oversize material, and audio recordings of various commencement, class day, and baccalaureate activities.

Consists of research materials of faculty members of Princeton University's Department of Near Eastern Studies, most likely Philip Khuri Hitti (1886-1978) and/or his son-in-law, R. Bayly Winder (1920-1988). Materials include photocopied materials relating to Jurji Zaydan (Georgie Zeidan) (1861-1914), and Aramco records, primarily Arabian Research Division, Government Relations Division translations of Current Affairs Radio Broadcasts from 1954 to 1956.

Since its first class of six graduates and one honoree in 1748, Princeton University has awarded over 80,000 diplomas. This collection contains 213 original diplomas and photostats, including executed diplomas as well as blank, sample or spoiled diplomas.

The dissertations represent doctoral work in over forty graduate departments. They date from 1877 to the present and they are arranged chronologically.

Though informal fundraising groups acting under the auspices of the Graduate Council had used the name since the 1920s, the Princeton University Fund as it came to be known was officially assembled in 1940 to provide a permanent organization dedicated to annual giving and other fundraising efforts. Consists of detailed committee minutes and correspondence of the Princeton University Fund. Also included in the collection are annual fundraising reports, promotional materials and clippings, and organizational charts.

Consists primarily of letters by Aaron Burr (Princeton Class of 1772) to members of his family and associates, along with some documents pertaining to his legal career.

Consists of a wide range of miscellaneous material by or about the Nobel Prize-winner and world famous physicist Albert Einstein, including correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, drawings, ephemera, medical records, and printed material.

Consists chiefly of correspondence of Andrew Fleming West, who served as dean of Graduate Studies at Princeton University when Woodrow Wilson served as the University's president.

Ashbel Green (1762-1848) was a prominent Presbyterian minister, eighth president of the College of New Jersey, and co-founder of the Princeton Theological Seminary. The bulk of the papers consist of Green's personal writings, including diaries and sermons. The papers of Green's father, the Reverend Jacob Green (1722-1790) are also included.

Advertising material, mostly catalogs, from publishers and sellers of children's books, toys and educational products.

The Miscellaneous Circus Collection consists of subject files on all aspects of the circus: acts, organizations, and specific performers and circuses. Included are photographs, manuscripts, programs, broadsides, posters, scrapbooks, clippings, and other ephemera.

Consists of personal papers of archaeologist and art critic Dan Fellows Platt, a member of the Princeton Class of 1895.

The Early Photographs of Greece Collection is an open collection for general photographs of sites and subjects in Greece. Included are panoramic photographs of the Parthenon, Athens, and Smyrna, along with other photographs of Greece.

The Princeton University Library Collection of Historical Subject Files, Grounds and Buildings contains information relating to the buildings, grounds, and architects of Princeton University. The collection also includes information on the development of the campus and the various chronologies of construction and land acquisition that have been gathered.
