Mini-collection of works (copies), editorial and personal correspondence, photographs, and printed material

The Personal Files series contains materials about Kennan's career, as well as his personal life. The majority of the series is composed of newspaper articles, either clippings or arranged in scrapbooks, about Kennan which cover his entire career at the State Department and at the Institute for Advanced Study, as well as his opinions on current events and his retirement. Also included are recordings of interviews, lectures, conferences, and television programs by or about Kennan, his appointment calendars from 1965 and 1970-2000, papers for classes he taught at Princeton University, and materials he provided to his official biographer John Gaddis, notably the FBI's file on Kennan. Other materials include photographs, awards and honorary degrees, topical files of articles Kennan collected, and files on Kennan's travels.

These course materials were removed from the Lecture Notes Collection (AC052), as they are not notes taken by students. Some material in this grouping may never have been in the Lecture Notes Collection but was stored together with material that was. Some are professors' notes for lectures, some are problem sets or laboratory instructions kept by students.

The papers of Richard Delafield, great-uncle of John Ross Delafield, consist of correspondence, photographs, genealogical papers, photocopies, and printed matter. The correspondence contains letters by Delafield, soldier and military engineer, in reference to army and engineering matters, some letters to family members, and letters about him sent to John Ross Delafield by the archivist of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. There is a photograph of Delafield taken while he was superintendent of West Point as well as photocopies of letters, an army order, reports, and sheet music of the "Florida March" and the "Manassas March," both dedicated to Delafield.

Consists of novels, short stories, poetry and articles written by James Gould Cozzens as well as works by others.

This series consists of printed maps, brochures, journals, and books.

Series 2: Examinations Arranged by Subject, 1833-1998 consists primarily of examinations for Princeton undergraduate courses. It also contains a small number of exam schedules, graduate examinations, and instructions.

Consists of correspondence, documents, ledgers, photographs of the Meteor Crater (Ariz.) site, and printed matter of Barringer (Princeton University Class of 1879). The correspondence contains letters which deal with scientific and business activities in mining and meteorology, including those of several companies which Barringer founded or developed, such as the Hanover Bessemer Iron and Copper Company, El Palmarito Leasing Company, the Texas Iron Association, and the Meteor Crater Exploration Mining Company (general manager, George M. Calvocorresses, a major correspondent). The collection reflects Barringer's accomplishment in being the first to advance the theory that Meteor Crater was caused by the fall of a meteoric cluster, probably a small comet. There are a number of photographs, including over 100 cyanotypes and 6 lantern slides, mainly concerned with illustrating various craters and aspects of meteor study, mining equipment, and aerial surveys. There are also letters by fellow college classmate Woodrow Wilson, whose correspondence indicates that Barringer was not only a friend but also a personal adviser on mining and geological matters. In addition, the correspondence includes letters by Theodore Roosevelt, Owen Wister, General Leonard Wood, and Elihu Thomson.

The Departments and Centers series consists of the records of the various departments (and in later years, research centers) which fall under the authority of the School of Engineering. As engineering has progressed rapidly over the course of the 20th century, many of these departments have undergone changes in title, mergers, or been disbanded completely. For the purposes of description, the names used here reflect the name of the Department or Center at the date of the most recent records found in the corresponding subseries.

Consists of materials related to Pynson Printers, Adler's printing business. Included are jobs, correspondence, documents, order files, vouchers, and financial and printed material.

Consists primarily of documents and photographs of the Torrence family.

Consists of miscellaneous printed material such as pamphlets, brochures, exhibition and dealer catalogues, and clippings about John James Audubon, as well as correspondence and subject files on related topics. Much of this material was gathered by Dr. Howard C. Rice, Jr., of Princeton University Library and relates to his research on Audubon and the whereabouts of his prints, manuscripts, and paintings.

Consists of the papers of Findley M. Torrence, Olivia Dunbar Torrence, Pauline Torrence, and William Vaugh Moody, as well as correspondence of the Torrence family.

Consists of correspondence with individuals such as Robert Fletcher, James Montgomery, and James Tunstall, as well as others.

This series consists of photographs of ballet dancers and ballet performances. Included are signed photographs of Mikhail Baryshnikov and Martha Graham. The photos are organized into "still life" and "people" sections.

The Papers of Others About Woodrow Wilson Series consists of groups of papers collected by others about Woodrow Wilson. The collectors include writings, correspondence, documents, and photos collection by family (Stockton Axson, Eleanor Wilson McAdoo, and Margaret Wilson), along with writings such as reminiscences, theses, or dissertations on Wilson and correspondence collections on Wilson (Wilson Farrand, McMillan Lewis, William McCombs). Also included in this series is the Henry Bragdon Collection of Reminiscences (made up of interviews and correspondence on Wilson), papers of Laura Turnbull, the Curator of the Woodrow Wilson Collection, on her work for Woodrow Wilson: A Selected Bibliography of his Writings, Addresses, and Public Papers, and some files of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation. Finally, the series includes the papers of Charles L. Swem, Wilson's stenographic secretary, including shorthand notebooks, transcriptions of speeches, correspondence, and interviews recorded from 1912-1921, as well as photographs, and documents, divided into sections on Wilson and on personal topics, and a collection of newspaper clipping scrapbooks on Wilson from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and individuals.

Consists of information, papers, and photographs on acrobats, bands, circus acts, clowns, posters, and sideshows, as well as other subjects.

Consists of correspondence sent by Anthony Trollope, as well as letters sent by friends, family, and associates.

The Clubs and Organizations series documents the many clubs and organizations that members of the Princeton University community have created throughout Princeton's history. Though most clubs are founded, run, and consist only of students, some clubs are run just by faculty and staff or include all three. Many of the files only contain but a few clippings that give just a slight understanding of those clubs and organizations, although others are more richly documented.

Consists of manuscript material of both Anthony Trollope and others, checks, memorandums, and other miscellaneous documents.

Series 1, Buildings, consists of information related to specific buildings on campus. It also contains files related to the five residential colleges and buildings that were proposed but not built.

Consists of the writings, correspondence, photographs, and scrapbooks of Louise Selina Bonynge Maxwell.

The General series consists of photos of individuals associated with Princeton.

The Administration series consists of photos of Princeton administration.

The Faculty series consists of photos of Princeton faculty.

Consists of correspondence with approximately 380 correspondents.
