Abstract

The General Manuscripts Collection consists of manuscripts and small collections of papers and records which are related in some way to the history of Princeton University. While most documents in the General Manuscripts collection were produced by alumni or student organizations, there are several documents produced by trustees, faculty, and other members of the University community.

The General Manuscripts Collection consists of individual manuscripts and small collections of papers and records which are related in some way to the history, students, and alumni of Princeton University. The vast majority of the documents in the General Manuscripts collection were produced by alumni, although there are several exceptions such as trustees or other members of the University community.

Collection History

Acquisition:

The documents which comprise the General Manuscripts Collection have been collected by the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library over a span of several years, primarily beginning in the 1990s. Whenever possible, accession numbers have been included with folder descriptions.

Accruals

Additions are made to the General Manuscripts Collection when materials which fit the scope of the collection are accessioned by the Library.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

For preservation reasons, original analog and digital media may not be read or played back in the reading room. Users may visually inspect physical media but may not remove it from its enclosure. All analog audiovisual media must be digitized to preservation-quality standards prior to use. Audiovisual digitization requests are processed by an approved third-party vendor. Please note, the transfer time required can be as little as several weeks to as long as several months and there may be financial costs associated with the process.
