Abstract

The Council on Urban Studies was formed in 1968 to confront "the numerous intellectual challenges posed by urbanization" and to foster and coordinate the teaching and research activities of the schools and departments at the University concerned with Urban Studies, such as the School of Architecture and the Woodrow Wilson School. The records include meeting minutes, correspondence, and a questionnaire circulated to undergraduates.

The Council on Urban Studies was formed in 1968 to confront "the numerous intellectual challenges posed by urbanization" and to foster and coordinate the teaching and research activities of the schools and departments at the University concerned with Urban Studies, such as the School of Architecture and the Woodrow Wilson School. Comprised of representatives from various departments and institutions, the Council's initial chairman was provost William G. Bowen. When Bowen became president of the University in 1972, he was succeeded by Dean Robert Geddes of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning.
