Collection Creator Biography:

Kuhn, Harold W. (Harold William), 1925-2014

Harold W. Kuhn was a professor of mathematical economics in the Princeton mathematics department, where he taught for over 40 years. In 1968, he was elected as faculty representative on the Committee on the Structure of the University, which was founded by University President Goheen to address student led protests against Princeton's connection with the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA), and other policy concerns such as the role of the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program on campus, and the rule regarding women visitors in dormitories. The Committee, sometimes referred to as the Kelley Committee, also included David P. Billington, professor of civil engineering; F. Sheldon Hackney, assistant professor of history; Suzanne Keller, professor of sociology; Stanley Kelley Jr., professor of politics; Aaron Lemonick, professor of physics; John H. Marks, associate professor of Near Eastern studies; and R. Bruce Partridge II, assistant professor of physics. In 1969, the Committee was renamed the Council of the Princeton University Community (CPUC), which includes such subcommittees as the Executive Committee, Committees on Rights and Rules, Governance, Priorities, and Resources, and the Judicial Committee.
