Abstract

Theodore Ziolkowski was a Princeton University professor in the departments of Modern Languages and Literatures and Comparative Literature from 1964 to 2001, and Dean of the Graduate School from 1979 to 1992. The papers include teaching-related materials such as research notes, lectures notes, course syllabi and examinations, as well as materials relating to Ziolkowski's governance of the Graduate School.

Ziolkowski

Theodore Ziolkowski (1932-2020) was a scholar of German studies and comparative literature and the Class of 1900 Professor Emeritus of German and Comparative Literature at Princeton University. He held degrees from Duke University and Yale University, where he received his PhD in 1957. Ziolkowski taught courses in the departments of Modern Languages and Literatures and Comparative Literature at Princeton University from 1964 to 2001, and was Dean of the Graduate School from 1979 to 1992. He was also president of the Modern Language Association (1985). Throughout his career, Ziolkowski published several books on Hermann Hesse (1877-1962), beginning with The Novels of Hermann Hesse: A Study in Theme and Structure (1965), as well as dozens of other books on German and comparative literature.

Gift of Theodore Ziolkowski in 2011 [AR.2011.150], 2012 [AR.2012.104] and 2014 [AR.2014.085]. Additional papers were donated by Theodore Ziolkowski in 2018 (AR.2018.088) and by Eric Ziolkowski in 2022 [AR.2022.017].
