Autograph letter signed from Brown to Frederick Douglass regarding Harriet Tubman. On Tubman's behalf, Brown requests financial assistance for Tubman and her parents, and notes that Tubman has inquired about traveling with Douglass.

Collection History


This item was part of the Cyrus H. McCormick, Jr. (1859-1936) (Class of 1879) collection that his widow, Alice H. Brown (1881-1950), initially deposited in March 1947 and then gifted to the Library in January 1948 (AM 13365).

Custodial History

Cyrus H. McCormick purchased the letter in 1929 from the dealer F.H. Sweet.


The collection is open and will continue to grow.
