The Troxell Collection contains over 3000 manuscripts relating to the Rossettis and their friends. While Dante Gabriel is the central figure, his brother and sisters (William Michael, Christina Georgina, Maria Francesca) are also represented, as are several other members of the Polidori/Rossetti families. Other research interests amply supported by the collection include the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and Victorian art, poetry, and literature.
A general summary of the Rossetti material follows: I. Christina-many AMss of her poems, the AMs of Commonplace and Other Stories, over 60 letters, a lock of hair, and various photographs, portraits, and newspaper clippings. II. Dante-numerous AMss of poems, including "Eden Bower," The House of Life, other sonnets and lyrics; proofs to stages of Poems, before and after the exhumation of his manuscript from his wife's grave; over 250 letters; memorabilia, newspaper clippings, photographs, portraits, and supplementary material. III. Maria-11 letters and supplementary material. IV. William-AMss, including his introduction to the P.R.B. Journal; over 200 letters, 3 documents, and 1 photograph.
Papers of other persons in the Rossetti "circle," or family friends, include correspondence of manuscripts from Mackenzie Bell, including the AMs and printer's galleys for his biography of Christina; Ford Madox Brown; Robert Browning; Edward Burne-Jones, including drawings and sketches; Hall Caine, including the AMs of Recollections of Dante Gabriel Rossetti; William Holman Hunt; William Morris, William Bell Scott (sizable correspondence); Algernon Charles Swinburne; and Theodore Watts-Dunton.
