Consists of additional correspondence of individuals such as C. Cowden Clarke, J. Goodall, and Thornton Hunt. Also includes items such as clippings, notes, and a pencil sketch.

This series is arranged into two subseries: Correspondence, and Items.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists primarily of correspondence between John Watson Dalby and George James De Wilde spanning the period between 1826 and 1875. Included are 290 letters from Dalby to De Wilde and 4 letters from De Wilde to Dalby, as well as 7 manuscripts, and a small selection of letters by and to Leigh Hunt. In addition, there are miscellaneous correspondence of John Hunter, Maria Wilby, and others, and miscellaneous items including a report on the Leigh Hunt Memorial fund in the hand of Robert Browning.

The following standard abbreviations, or their variations, are used to identify materials in this collection: ALsS = autograph letters signed, AMs = autograph manuscript.

John Watson Dalby and George James De Wilde were both poets and literary men, as well as friends of Leigh Hunt, whom their letters frequently concern.
