The collection consists of papers, and accompanying letters, of scholars from both academe and industry dealing with advances in computer technology and sent to the American Institute of Electrical Engineers for presentation at the AIEE's general meetings. The bulk of the papers and cover letters are addressed to Edward C. Day, assistant secretary for technical papers, and Claude Kagan, vice-chairman of the Computing Devices Committee of the Institute.

The American Institute of Electrical Engineers was a United States-based organization of electrical engineers that existed between 1884 and 1963 (when it merged with the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE)).
